Crosstalk in RNC

I grabed this audio loop testing software from the web a while ago. people may be familiar with it (can't remember the name).... it lets you connect the input and output of your sound card together and checks frequency response, THD, crosstalk noise etc.

Well I got curious and ran the loop through some of my gear to see how it performed. Everything went pritty well, preamp, mixer etc all fairly close to spec untill I reached the RNC...

Turns out you get pritty high levels of crosstalk and distortion...OK not unexpected for a compressor...but even with the unit OFF ?? I understand there is a relay bypass in the unit. How on earth can a relay bypass produce significant levels of crosstalk and distortion... unless some circuitry is still connected ??

Note I'm not trying to defame the RNC (if that were possible) I think it sounds great. I just don't understand this anomaly ?

Email Mark (McQuilken) of FMR Audio -- I'm sure he can explain..........

crosstalk is when one signal bleeds electronically into another. For stereo this means L picking up small amounts of R signals and vice versa. In digital gear this is rarely an issue with crosstalk figures close to the noise floor ie 90+ dB separation. I must get my facts straight and re measure it but I think the RNC produced about 60 dB separation..... which you'd expect if the unit were ON since it must electronically listen to both L and R signals .... so there must be circuitry connecting them. I would have thought the relay bypass would get rid of this though.

Blue Bear ... when I remeasure it and get my facts straight I'll email Mark and post the reply.

im stupid. i knew that, but i was thinking the rnc was mono, so i got confused. it all makes sense now!
