I love toxic waste
Ok, I want to hear some crazy things people have done to get a unique sound on a track. For example, I ran vocals through a Marshall JCM800 head with the dirty channel cranked and mic'd the 4-12 cab it was pushin' through to get a crazy distorted vocal track. It was pretty cool. Give me some crazy stuff!!

That sounds perfectly sane compared to what Tom Waits did on his "Rain Dogs" album...actually sang through a powered megaphone into the microphone. I was a kick when we went to see him live and he actually did it live too. :)

I sometimes use single coil pickups instead of humbuckers to get a really heavy guitar sound on the tracks. But live, it sounds horrible.

sometimes, ill use a BEHRINGER mixer, and a BEHRINGER mic,

Put together, they sound crazzzy

I have been using a 1x12 guitar cab a couple feet in front of the kick drum as an extra mic to catch the big low stuff. Kicks ass.

I once farted right on my mic preamp. Gave everything a very warm and moist sound that was quite funky.

here's something i did last week:

my brother came over to play some guitarloops and solo's on a simple electronic song i made, downtempo chilly music, kinda dark,
for the solo's i wanted a real special sound so if i remember correctly i just took the DI signal (or maybe the gut was first plugged in a dbx163x, cant remember) and plugged it in my M8, i had a dbx166xl on the insert to limit the gut sound real hard, but then HAH, here it comes:

i turned the gain real loud, i boosted the mids 100% and started tweaking the
frequency of the mids (gives some sort of phaser sound),
what i wanted was total distortion, distortion in the M8 , and then the direct out to my soundcard which i allowed to clip real hard too,
the result was real harsh, SQEEEKING screaming skrnarsching solo that sounded like it went trough a sonic destructor, and i loved the sound,
its dirty cause you can really hear the digital clipping which normally is a hatefull sound, but here its what i wanted,
the solo cuts trough the mix like a hot knife trough butter

now i wonder, can you harm your soundcard or mixer by doing this?
i'm not gonna do it every week, but some parts of the song will be re-done soon, that means i'll have to abuse my equipment again

:D

PS, i just invented the word "skrnarsching", feel free to use it yourself one day ;)

how you connect the guitar amp to your mixer?
you just put the amp in front of the kick, and then what, use the HP output of the guitar amp to go to your mixer?

My guess is you plug what is normally the speaker input cable (normal plugged into the amp's output) into the mixer's input and treat it like any other dynamic mic...

I'll have to try that.

ah OK, but i think then its dangerous not to make mistakes,

if you take the speaker cable and plug it in the mixer you'll get a signal,
but if you take the AMP output cable and plug it in the mixer you might blow your mixer and amp?

and am i correct that if you turn a guitar amp on and disconnect the cable between amp and speaker you can "blow" or at least harm the amp?
so this would mean that if i wanna use a guitaramp as a kick mic i'll have to leave the amp off at all time?

I onced bathed in green jello to do a green jello cover song. not really. but it sounds like fun.

Actually I run my xt live through my alesis m1's and mic the woofer with a 57, and use a 3000b from a distance to get some sounds. Kinda boring, and many might think it is lame, but what the heck. I was really bored when I did it.

so far everything i have heard on here sucks. except for maybe running a trombone through distortion, thats pretty sweet. everyone else gets a lame mark in my book.

I don't think everything sucked. I did like the "recording in the nude" bit. But I do agree about the whole trombone thing... that's inventive.

Mount a Wireless microphone to a ceiling fan and turn the fan on. :D

one time i ate the mic, and this dude played really loud acoustic guitar right next to my stomach, and the mic got it. then for the outro we recorded the mic as i shat it out.

then one time i took a gun to the studio and shot each bandmember in the foot to give the song a sense of urgency.

i still have the microphone cable running from my mouth to my anus.
