Welp it's been over a year since I've posted anything, and all you get is one lousy minute. Haha. Not totally happy with how the mix turned out but 'tis what 'tis. Finally fought the urge to compress....oh and I didn't have to sing under a blanket this time so maybe there is hope for me after all. Sorry 'bout the guitar tone but that's what the guitar actually sounds like, horf!

Comments welcome!

(yes, it's short. this will be an in between song. there is noise type stuff at the beginning and end but I left if off for the 'single')

Well you know what Slack? That's pretty damned cool. I hear what you're saying and it's clear that this is just an interlude, but it's a cool one. It reminds me of some albums from the 60's and 70's with constant music and sections being joined together with stuff like this. So now you have about 45 minutes of music you still have to write. Get busy!

Hey, I wouldn't change a thing on this one! It's so rare to find one of those perfect little "under 1 minute" tunes, & this is definitely one. I totally dig it. I'd buy a whole record of 1-minute tunes like this. I guess the Minutemen kinda already tried that, but it my opinion it's a playing field waiting to be stomped on once again.

Right on, that's what I say.

Chris

Don't change a damn thing. I think the guitar sound is perfect for this song, and I love the melody.

I'm a little surprised, but glad that the vocal is way out in front. Surprised 'cause I don't think you're fond of your voice from what I've heard you say in the past. Glad 'cause it sounds great. Was this tough to do... being all naked out front in a sparse arrangement, or are you getting more comfortable?

Excellent recording slack. The guitar sounds sweet and the vocal is nice and intimate. You have a good voice dude.

The recording is just great. It cut off too soon.

hmmm, your voice alway's has that "honest' vibe to it..unlike my fake ass shit. Great little diddy, you need to post more often!

Hey Slack, good to see ya making music again! And this is a great return. The song has a feel that reminds me of Radiohead- maybe something from OK Computer- like "Exit Music (For a Film)".
You have a great voice that works very well here. I also like the soundscape alot. Don't break the momentum dude. Keep 'em coming!

cool.. it kinda reminds me of Floyd, only darker.. you have a really good natural sounding voice.. Nice clean vocal sound too..
the only thing I didnt like was that low hum type sound that was floating around..

You need to post more in the clinic.. There's probably a lot of people who haven't heard 'six billion'.. BTW, that was the first song I ever listened to when I found this site, so it has a special place for me.. :)

damn, I forgot how evil 'our trip to the apocalypse' was..

very cool Slackij!

post more..

Heavens to Gilmore! Very dark in an extremly cool way. Some of the bass swells bloomed hard in my playback system (300-400hz?) but overall a very good sound.

If you haven't been listening to Lambchop, then you just reinvented a wonderful musical space.

It's a lovely intro to a whole song, Slack. Nice chord changes. Just when it ends, I can hear it going one of two directions. Either drums come in, and it ends up like a Counting Crows song, only more interesting. Alternately, you know that sound your daughter came up with here a couple months ago? Sort of like if you had a tiny mic down where the needle rides along in the vinyl groove? Well, if you put something like that at the one minute mark, and another instrument maybe, you could get some real mileage out of this one.

Good work. I really like this one. See, it's interesting when you get weird inside a recognisable genre, isn't it?

Hey, did you hear that tune Emeric put up here recently? It's on page two of the clinic right now. He's doing excellent stuff with acoustic guitar as well.

The end stands on it's own.
Well done.
Yeah, now you've just got 45 minutes of song to write, record, mix, master,,,,,,

You are Roger Waters, aren't you...that's not a question, it's an observation. I want more of this...or I want it to open up into a blistering, screaming something.

Love the feedbackish-swelling thing at the beginning and end. How did you do that?

Man, I wish there was more.

bye

Hey Slack.........
.......this is the first Ive heard from you. ....and i will be dropping by your website for more. Very cool stuff man. I liked the delayed/phased bg vocs way behind the lead vocs (what exactly is that....... aside from your basic satanic lyrical undertow)

:D
great stuff slack

I love that effect. I use it a ton...in CoolEdit, it's a delay preset called "MidTones Following" or something like that. You use any software slack?

I'll have to do this in two messages, I wasn't expecting so many replies so quickly!

Lt. Bob - That's exactly what I was going for. I've already got its spot picked out!

groucho - thanks a lot! I also like short songs...little moments that don't need anything else. I don't think this song wants to go anywhere else, so it ends where it ends!

pglewis - yeah I'm still not a fan of my own voice. I can't sing in front of people so I have to record vocals when my family is out. However, I have gotten used to my own voice...I have a little minidisc recorder that I listen to in bed and I'll often throw in a disc of my upcoming ideas or old songs...after hearing myself so much it's not as big a deal for me to hear it...I don't cringe...and I can mix when my wife is in the room...I used to have to mix vocals in headphones because I hated it so much.

Kramer - thank you very much for listening!

David - one man's "honest" is another man's "stage fright." :)

SLuice - hey check your PM...I finally was able to check out your fantastic tune! Anyhow, "Exit Music" was certainly an inspiration as it was my favorite song for quite a long time. The vocals in that tune literally shake my room. I couldn't mimic that of course, but it did give me the idea to use a low pass filter on the reverb and to put the vocals up front more....a lot more.

Wow, cool song. It would sound great followed by a heavy hitting rock tune. I like little snippets like this, sounds like a simple poem to music. Nice.

Wow. Sounds like Cobain to me. Kinda eery.

Great Tune. Leave it as is.
