Naa...go back to sleep...;) I'm the only true old fart around here I guess.:(

After seeing your avatar, I think I’ll just go ahead and agree with you.

Not a bad song Slack. It has a throughtful nature to it, and the Floyd references are on the mark. Just work at getting the production to fit the mood of the song and I would be happy. :) But I guess it is about making YOU happy eh? ;)

The production on this isn't "committed" to either being very intimate and clear, or spaced out and washy. Personally, I would go for intimate and clear. For that, the sound would need to be tightened up quite a bit more.

I am hearing a bit of hash on your s's and c's and k's and what not. Try a tad of 7KHz with a tight bandwidth before compression.

The low end is over to the top in my opinion. Too boomy. It needs to be a "tighter" low end. Throw on some headphones and you will see what I mean in a hurry! :)

Anyway, good work Bo. Good to hear that you are recording again!

Ed, thanks for listening.

I was wondering when somebody was going to mention the "ch"'s in the vocals.

I used a bandpass to locate the really nasty shit on the "ch" and it lived right around 3400hz. The problem was, however, that either a lot of the gravel in my voice lives there too, or the EQ I used just sucks. Even with a very narrow bandwidth I couldn't seem to get rid of the "ch" without also destroying what I liked about the vocal. Maybe I'll try again with a better EQ (but I must admit I'm still afraid of EQ).

I wanted the low end to be large on this one...probably a little inspired by Exit Music...I kind of like the low reverb on the vocal. The synth sound on the other hand....maybe the combination of the two doesn't work. It's been about a week now since I've heard it, so I'll be able to hear it more honestly when I listen again. I know that in little headphones it sounds ok...in big headphones it is a little irritating (the "ch" sound is more irritating though).

Intimate and "clear" is definately not something I would want to go with on this one. Intimate and washed out is more like it...but I didn't want a lot of cheesy reverb on the top either....I dunno :(

Slack,

Sounds like you've come to the dark side. This was uniquely enjoyable. Funny enough I was just listening to some Leonard Cohen yesterday, and this reminded me a lot of him. Well done!

Twist

So twist, I just noticed that you are from Madison WI. Have you ever seen Charles Thomas play or met him?

Ed

Floyd? Cohen? Oh, alright, but don't any of you guys listen to Lambchop? It's like Slack stumbled into a Lambchop warp.

Band called Hotter Than Karl?

Charles used to post a lot around here.

Ed

Nope. Sorry Ed, but I don't get out much anymore. I'm completely out of touch with local music. But now with the internet, who needs to go out? Pretty soon we'll all just evolve into a head with arms and hands for typing!

Seriously though, the MP3 mixing clinic is a great alternative for exposure to diverse styles for those of us who would be laughed out of the clubs.

Twist

sounds great slack!

you just need to tack another couple minutes on it and it will be dandy

Nice job :)
