Crate GT-80 amp

I have a Crate GT-80 Amp solid state/tube, I have put it in the shop but they didnt seem to fix the problem.
The voulme/sound fades in and out after a few minutes of playing. Sometimes the sound goes completely out then it will fade back in. Once it starts you have to just turn it off. It wont get any better.
Anyway does anyone have any sugestions to what might be the problem. I havent really wanted to work on it because I hear that amps tend to hold power and can be dangerous.
Any info would be helpful.

Clean all of your jacks especially the effects loop with contact cleaner[Deoxit].

As this is an 8 year old thread I imagine the amp is long gone unless the OP solved the problem. Those Crate amps did have crappy jacks in the effects loops. ocnor and arcaxis are correct with cleaning the jacks and checking the jacks with a patch cord.
