Crate amps

One of the reasons I've asked about the new Crates is that I bought one of the first Crate amps with the wood frame to look like a Crate. The big selling point was to be able to plug one amp into another and another and another and............I tried to plug it into my "Global" cheap-ass sears amp and blew the speaker out of the thing. The Crate amp was fine.

detuned,

yes i know both are the same, the color is different... now do you honestly put your bl;ack voodoo on 7.5??

the tune to a thing takes a little practice but if you setup up your gear right a is still good. I tried the g thing in a bliss of ignorance but i wasn't able to get a decent sounding g ...

pirateking... please do go into detail... if something is sold it isn't necesarrily the best... there are numerous examples... cigarrettes are sold solely on image... for example... i bought a 100 watt head... just because i WANTED one. it Sure as hell wasn't the best for me... So please; elaborate...

pirateking;

just one quick note; everything is an opinion... there are no general truths... everything I think is my opinion, i'm not capable of dissecting the general truth, all statements i make are based purely on my experience and my personal preferences... as we all do...

mojka i own a GFX series crate combo amp with celestion speakers. I bought it back in like 88 or 89 and I never liked it. I bought it used and probably paid too much for it but I never could get a decent tone out of it. Very disapointing. I still have it and occasionally i bust it out just for shits and grins but i wouldn't recomend them to anybody. Im a marshall man now.

i think so... it's tube, it;s cheap and it sounds like a marshall (some argue it's sounds better then...)

go for it!

HAHA yea same here! If I ever wanna just laugh, I plug my crate in and listen to the feedback.....or is that distortion? ...maybe its the clean channel....

I'm looking at the Marshall combos now. Any advice if looking at the little buggers like the 30 watters?

get s used studio... 20 watts all tube... really the valvestate series need more wattage.. the litlle ones sound like shit imho...

if you want something really cheap, the fender champion with 12" all-tube or laney LC15 might do it for ya, you'd probably need a something like a tube screamer for those to really" roar"...

"saying a 100 watt tube amp is "underwatted " is simply stupid detuned6.... i don't know who you are but you cannot hear the difference between 70 watts and 100 watts... both are TOO LOUD...

Maybe you play stadiums"

in the late 70's i was using a 100 watt marshall tube amp and i used to put a quilt over the front of the speaker cab (4X12 slant) ..then...i would turn the cab around backwards so it faced the wall behind the stage. i could crank it all the way up like that and not be (very much) too loud

but the drummer i used to play with is almost totally deaf in his left ear

jimistone....

i have two wuerstions;

What's a quilt?

was your drummer deaf before or after you started your band? ;)

but seriously, what's a quilt and by putting that over you cab, how can you moic it?

Guhlenn

ps. i'm not bashing 100watt amps. I have one, i would love to crank it... but i would go deaf, for sure!

:cool:
