hi all,

am a full time pro musician but home recording is just for fun...need some advice!

using:

cubase studio 4 / audigy 4 card+blaster box / sm58 straight into external box / SE z3300a via pre amp into external box

i get some crackling / interference on BOTH mics, is this an earth prob?...its NOT on monitoring only wen i actually record! very odd.

its NOT:

leads / pre amp / mics

cheers, si

Is the crackling showing up on the recording or just a constant noise?

You may just be recording too hot...

Back off the pre-amp a touch or two and see what that does for you. If you've already done that, then your problem is above my pay-grade.

:D

I can bet that it's sound cards buffer trouble.
instead tweaking buffer settings/trying asio4all/something else I would go and buy a decent interface (you could also consider used interfaces), but that's only me :D let's see what others have to say.

oh, one thing more... tell little bit about you computer (ram, cpu)

-edit-
okay, recording too hot can be also reasonable explanation :D

it does it WITH and WITHOUT the pre amp......

YES crackles gone BUT a horrid delay @ 48,000 sample rate tried setting the latency but didnt do the trick

sussed it!...keeping it as it was (creative asio) and taking the the asio buffer latency from 2 ms to 5 or 7 it works!!! a very very very slight delay but i cant handle it...

ta all...

why do you keep your sample rate on 48000 unless you are dealing with video material? 44,1khz/24bit is enough.

(and HA, I was right about the buffer thing :D)

i can only use 44 khz if i use ONE input on the external box ..if i want the facility of using the two (its good to have the option) i can ONLY have 48 khz!
so i'll stick with it...ta for all your help!
