Ok, I bought a Presonus Inspire, ditched that. Now have a Tascam US-122 with bundled Cubase. Clearly taking the cheap route. Also use a AKG Perception 200 mic with some fancy mic cable.

Anyhow, randomly every few seconds or every fifteen seconds there is a popping noise, a slight skip in the audio. What causes this? How do I avoid this?

I also have a Presonus TubePre pre-amp, it seems to pop more while this is on. Let me know what you think could cure this.

Thank you.

check your cable from your mic to your pre amp it may be a bad connection.

The fact that it is happening at a somewhat regular interval is a very typical symptom of having two digital devices that are not running off of the same clock. Are there two (or more) digital devices in your recording chain? If so, you must set one up as the master and the other(s) as the slave.

It's different on every piece of equipment. On hardware, usually there is a physical switch where you can set sample rate, clock source, etc. Although sometimes it's a software setting on the main display accessed through a menu. Your owner's manual might be of help if you don't understand what the settings mean.

For computer software, you would need to check the manual and find out how to change the clock settings.

But the end result is that you need to have only one master clock, and the rest slaves. And they should all be set to the same sampling rate.

seems to work, thanks

Even a broken clock gives the right time twice a day. Guess it was that time for me! ;)
