Better Than You
The Artist have learned to stay out of the argument. Lars says he never expected the backlash from the fans. (duh!).
Let the labels do the dirty work, and the artist looks to keep their dignity, and the music appears more honest.
If I were a large enough Artist I would release 10 songs on the INTERNET for $0.25 per song download and skip the label all together. Way less overhead, and the Artist makes much more per sale than they would on ANY record label. Money is in the touring, and the merchandise...not in the music. The music is just the tool used to sell seats and band related merchandise. That is why studio writers get a flat fee of $25,000 for a song for miss Spears, and yet Brittney is a millionaire. Fact is, there is no real evidence that links slow albums sales to P2P networking. Economy is slow, every market is down ('ecpt of course Petrol). I download a couple songs from an album. If I hear enough that I like, I'll buy it. I have no problem buying CDs. However, I don't want to pay $16 for 1 good song, and 11 fills. (i.e. White Strips). What ever happened to the "single"?
Software piracy is a different issue. There really is no need for these P2P proggies to allow software sharing. Freeware is all over the internet, so the only thing that would get shared on P2P would be pirate software. Unless I'm missing something, I can't think of one legitimate reason to allow software sharing on Kazaa.
