Working on full remix
Bear, you drive me nuts...
I'm reworking everything, including the sibilant vocals which resulted from forgetting to switch off a high frequency stimulator and desser plugin.
I *did* compress the snare a tad more in an attempt to bury it while still allowing it to "peek" through, but it didn't work, obviously. It was actually an Akai sample, but somehow I made it sound Roland.
Could've been the compression and smiley-EQ.
Mixmkr - Thanks for the compliments again. I'm getting a Bass POD Pro and I'll be adding a true bassline (which really does punch it up more than I thought) along with a natural sounding snare. Eventually I'll track real drums. The backup vocals will be redone, and I want to mic a real piano so that instrument will have a prominant punch. My Motif ain't cuttin' it.
Thanks for all the extremely helpful feedback and advice, everyone. I'll post a remix in a week or two that should be a bit more Nashville-esque.
P.S. It's funny how adding a real bass makes almost any acoustic mix sound deep and spacious. I'm never going back to keyboard basslines.
