i have been told by various producers that i should copyright my lyrics before ever recording the tracks. Is this a good idea, and if so how much does it usually cost to copyright the lyrics. I was told I could go to a library in downtown detroit and pay $30 to copyright as many lyrics as I want. What experience have you had?

I've seen people do all of there lyrics in like a songbook format and submit them as a literary collection. Lyrics would be classified as non-dramatic works..

http://www.copyright.gov/forms/formtxi.pdf

Also the fees are now 45 bucks for copyrights...

so say i have a 3 inch binder filled to capacity with college ruled binder paper, all of which have lyrics on them

so i could take em somwhere n get all that shit copyrighted for 45 dollars?

no you cant just go somewhere....
you have to copyright your work with the LOC in DC.. http://www.copyright.gov

and use the form Demi provided...if you put your lyrics to music then us the PA form also on the site

cost $45 per form or collection (also attach a listing with titles of the work submitted as a collection)

also ..i forgot to say..you can also just record your vocals alone..put the on Cd and submit them using the PA Form..

would this also keep people from bitin ur stuff or like when they use ur voice as a sample on a track they have to pay u for it?

freestyle

what if i dont write how can icopywrite lyrics
