I am new to home recording. I am using a Zoom MRS 802. A friend and I are working on stuff from 600 miles apart. He has an MD8 and loaned me an extra MD8 that he had. Is there anyway to copy from the Zoom to the MD8 and keeping the one or two tracks that I'm adding seperate?

Thanks

Yo Cat on a HIGH Perch:

From your Zoomeraroony, burn a CD. Then, play the CD and record it directly into the MD8 on one or two tracks. That will leave you lots of tracks to do other stuff.

Hope this works.

I still have my MD8 plugged in my studio; however, I use the Yam 2816 now. The MD8 looks cool so it stays.

Thanks, but what I need to do is have each track seperate so he can do a mixdown. I think what I will have to do is zero out the playback in the Zoom and record each track one at a time. Does this sound reasonable?

Yo Cat Way up there:]

I just took a look at the "back" of my MD8 and, as I suspected, there ARE 8 'INS."

Does your Zoom have individual "OUTS" for the tracks? {I don't know how many tracks your unit has as I've never used one.}

But, if you have the outs, you can record your tracks direct to the MD8 and then have tracks open on the disc to send to your friend.

Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the post -- always glad to help out when I can.

Thanks,

The Zoom does not have channel outs only 1 set of RCA's. I think what I'll have to do is zero out the playback and record each channel one at a time.

Yes, that's what you'll have to do. The only problem is re-syncing the tracks.
At the beginnig of your song, record a couple clicks on ALL TRACKS. This will help when your friend is ready to re-sync.

You won't be able to put a midi sync signal onto an audio cd. At least there's no way that I'm aware of.

Hey Topcat

Just a shout to let you know I have a MRS 802 as well. Your thread was the only search that had a result. Hope you had success with your problem.

I have a question myself:

I want to play my keyboard into it but my keyboard only has

2 1/4" jacks in the back. one is "assignable jack" and the other is "phones/output". I attempted to plug in these two jacks to the input 1 and input 2 jacks on the zoom. Didnt work.

Is there a splitter I can connect to one of the jacks and then run my cables off that to the inputs of the zoom?

I am assuming this is one way to do it, if not the only way. Thanks for the help in advance all.
