Generally that's good advice, although I don't mind 33uF on the output--you can't presume all loads are 10K, and that 16V is a sufficient rating if somebody patches phantom into the output . . .

I prize unity-gain stability in all opamps, so I'd use OPA2227 instead. He failed to note that 2227/2228's noise is lower than 5532, which is a huge benefit.

I should have prefaced with "I really don't know electronics yet. It seems cool that with a few extra dollars and some work/patience/skill you can make these low cost pres sound really good."

Cause I really have no idea what you meant past "Generally that's good advice, althought I don't mind." After that it might as well have been ...

Probably one of the best ways to get into electronics is to build a kit like one of those.

I wonder how they sound. This is a cool link. Do you think you will try it?

Ive built a couple of there kits , I built there "stack in a box" kit and made a guitar amp out of it ...

An awesome sounding amp ......

I also built a Paia 4 band parametric EQ but I haven"t been able to get it to work properly ......

Cheers

I built both of those kits also, they both work fine. The main thing for me is inventory the parts so you know nothing is missing and take it slow and make every solder joint as perfect as you possibly can.
The parts from the kits were some good components-unlike a lot of the stuff I have to deal with at my job!

I love the concept of building your own amp. My father in an electronic tech who at 82 years has seen his share of tube amps. He's made quite a few from scratch over the years as well. Making your own amp is kind of like an Indian warriow making his own bow before the battle. Just seems right.:laughings:

I built the PAIA mic pre and did the mods a few years ago. It is indeed a beautiful sounding pre and quite versatile. I need no other. That pre with my AKG C414 is pure magic on vocals.
