will do.

my birthday is the 18th.....so hoping monitors are the gift of choice.

that sounded akward.......hehe the word "akward" looks akward.

feh..........

forget about the amp, forget about the preamp
Look at the best amp in the world, the UniValve at http://www.thdelectronics.com/products/index.html
Don't forget to read the reviews, in the UK guitar magazine made a seperate catagory for it, its that much better than anything else, ever.
I have actually SOLD my orange, vintage marshalls and 2 brown AC30's - as they never got used anymore.

The UniValve is "A" throughout, and has a build in HotPlate, so you can use it as a pre to feed other amps, you can use it without a speakers, and it has a balanced line out, so you don't need a pre.

Email me if you want to find a place with good prices on THD stuff

Leave it to sjoko to blow your next 2 years' gear budget on a single esoteric piece.

;)

Hey Sjoko... you become a Canadian recently??
(Scarborough...)

:D

Are you going to Scarborough Fair?

Maybe he's found his true calling... ;)

"Carnies. Circus folk. Nomads, you know. Smell like cabbage. Small hands."

I'm sorry to hear that, sjoko. My condolences.

Its been a tough couple months for you, I'm sure.

if it were me and i had no pres at all and i didnt feel id benifit at this stage then dont buy them.

but again if your looking to buy smart its better to buy gear which will last you a good few years and not something you just advertise out on ebay because you bought the wrong product in the first place your ears can only tell you the true story

If it were me id get myself a little fender hotrod deluxe wait a little while for the fmr audio rnmp really nice mic pre to be released around $350us dollars i hear.

then if you have some change over get yourself one or two brand new sm57,s with a real mic lead not some cheap lead

make sure you have nice guitarleads and also get your guitar set up by a reliable guitar tech choose a guage of string your happy with then stick to that brand and guage set up on that guitar if you change the guage or string you will also have to get intonation and all else adjusted accordingly and when tyou want to record do so with fresh strings play them in a little and get them well stretched also before you record this will also help all to stay nice and in tune after that practice makes perfect

geez i get too far in front of myself sometimes when posting

al of the above is relevant but most important your ears are the best judge when buying or reviewing any equipment alot of people in bbs can give you advice as a safe guide but you in the end have to make the hard decisions.

I feel what happens alot is people sometime go to either end of extremes eg buying more then they need or sometimes not buying enough or also just plain buying the wrong gear to start with.

Ask yourself how long do i want to be playing guitar for and if the answer is quite a while then your better served buying an amp which will give you a few years road useage then something which wont be up to the task.

save your money up a little longer and take a look at some of what i sugested above ohhhhhhhh a good set of monitors is also essential if what you hear is no good then you cannot expect to be able to translate that into a good finished product take a look at some of the forums in here on monitors then go in with a cd thats well recorded and auditition a number of monitors active and passive under the same room condition and at a similar listening level replicate this last step for all if your going to listen to a loud passage then hear that passage of music the same on other speakers let your ears translate the truth o you forget the sales hype

I dont care what monitors you do get but if the tracking isnt done well in the first place they wont help you a bit. But a good choice now is the tannoy protojs, get a used 20 watt amp,you still have 150.00 for a good pre.

jo meek has one for 100.00 presonus has one for 160.00

with out the pre tracking will be possible but not near as good.

That's amazing that you didn't notice a difference, when comparing your electric guitar tracks to A Perfect Circle's acoustic guitar tracks. And by the way, can you compare your sounds to another album please? There are so many other bands in the world than A Perfect Circle, and surely you must be interested in doing more than A Perfect Circle covers.

Lighten up!

i just got the sansamp classic and 2 days later i put my fender hotrod deville in the closet. i'll bring it out for gigs.

if you are using that 100w amp to record and not to play out, you might want to reconsider. this sansamp is really good, and i heard the POD pro in the music store and it's damn good too.

conklin groove-tools bass --> sansmp bass di --> mackie1604

fender strat --> sansamp classic --> mackie1604

roland xv-3080 --> mackie1604

emu asr-x pro --> mackie 1604

vocal --> audio technica 4033 --> mackie1604

Why 100 Watt Head

I am curious. Why did you want a 100 watt amp in the first place. Was it becuase you thought that the sound you want can only be gotten by using such an amp. I think you should take the advice of the majority opinion here and scrap that 100 watt amp idea. Get a pre-amp. But, before you do, pick up a book on recording, home recording or whatever, a basic guide if you will. In any number of these type of books, you will find an explanation of what a pre-amp does and how to use it. This will certainly give you the information you need.

Hopefully, someday, you will be able to hear the difference and hear what you are doing and questions such as the one you asked will be moot.
