Controlling humidity for high-end mics?

I just got a new Pearlman TM-1 tube microphone, and I live in NC, where it can get both hot and humid.

Dave Pearlman said I might need to worry about the humidity depending on how dry the environment is around the mic.

What are the best ways to control the humidity in a one room studio/bedroom setup?

I've got two fans in my room and occasionally keep my windows open.

Any suggestions??

If you want to go the expensive route, you could purchase a de-humidifier which turns on when the humidity is high, and off when it's just right (digitally controlled). If you own a lot of expensive equipment, maybe this would be a good idea.

What sucks is that my high-end acoustic guitars (Martin, Larrivee, Santa Cruz, Taylor, Guild) HATE low humidity, and my microphones hate high humidity, what's a guy to do! I keep a hygrometer in my studio and it's usually 20%, so my mics are fine, and I keep humidifiers in my guitar cases so they're happy! So then everyone is happy!

The main thing is to keep the capules dry. If the mics are going to be out on stands, put a sandwich bag over the capsule with a dessicant packet inside (you can tape it inside, if needed) when not in use. Be advised that, periodically, you'll have to dry out the dessicant packets in an oven (put them on a cookie sheet at about 200 deg F for 10 min or so).

Otherwise, store the mics in their cases with dessicant packets.

Great info! I think i'm going to purchase some dessicant packets to mitigate my humidity problem.

What's the best place to buy these packets? I see some on eBay, but I'm not sure if that's the best route to take.

Thanks again!

Let me know where you end up getting them from. I'm looking too.

I don't think I've ever actually purchased a desiccant packet. The come with most new mics and also in shoe boxes, etc. to keep moisture away.

Although overpriced, these change colors to let you know when it's time to dry them out again.
