Hi all, can anyone give me any feedback on control room size? Right now I am looking at 21' length, 16' wide, 11' height. Also, I will probably be using just the Mackie moniters, so I will not need to mount the large full range speakers. Is there anything I need to be aware of from an acoustical perspective, in just using powered nearfields, with a subwoofer. Thanks Danny

Danny that's an excellent size for a control room. You are going to have reduce the reverb time of the whole room.

If you go to my http://www.lis.net.au/~johnsay/Acoustics/Titles/Acoustics1.htm Acoustics Site and click on reverberation you'll find a reverb calculator where you can work out what the reverb time of your room will be. From that you can work out how much treatment you will need to bring the TOTAL REVERB TIME down.

Bringing down the high end is easy but getting the low frequency reverb time down requires building slots and traps.

cheers

John, Thanks for your reply...and thanks for your website also. I have learned a ton from that! Can you give me any direction as far as just using the near field monitors?? I have 2 reason for this, 1.) I have heard that the large monitors are not a real world test, in other words, most consumers don't have that quality and power avaliable, 2). I wanted to be able to go to surround in the next couple of years. Not sure how the larger far field monitors would work in this situation. Thanks for your time. danny
