That's what I was thinking when you Console-haters were "in the lead"... :D

Seems to me that there are 5 votes for burn baby burns, and 4 votes for retirement. That would make 9 by my reckoning, and put "NO CONSOLE VIEW" in the lead IMHO.

And for you 8 wusses who voted for "Can't We Get Along," I say get a spine and take a stand. The future of democracy hangs in the balance.

I count the "Can't we get all get along" as "pro Consolve View", so it really is 14 to 9.... :p

In my opinion both have positives .. and well, no negatives. During tracking and mixing, I like to use a combo of both... this debate can go on forever... until Cakewalk decide what to do... I guess until then this debate will go on...

Mind you they will probably keep both and increase the functionality of the channel strip...

I found the below screen shot as a free DX plug in for Sonar..

Which plugin is that and where can I find it?

I told you about this in my older post....

It's from that Free VST site...

Here is the direct link to the download page.

It is classed as a 'full demo' version... you just run it as an audio effect in the fx bin of your channel. The you can 'create' a channel strip look across the screen.

I just thought that was handy... it's what Cakewalk should do in their next version of Sonar... with an enable/disable switch on the EQ.

Nice! I'll test it tonight!

Attention all Console Haters! You must admit that with strip like that, the Console View would look good... :p

the demo version looks good,.

the other 'for sale' versions actually have too much going on.

Ok, so from this console view talk comes the idea....

Why doesn't Sonar offer us some customizable versions of famous mixing consoles i.e. Neve, SSL, API or Trident. These might get me back over to the console side of things. This and if they didn't widen the tracks on the console when I want to have more than 4 Aux busses.

You can make one yourself with StudioWare if you'd like... ;)

I voted 'Can't we get along' because I do use both. But, the bottom line I feel, is that pretty looking knobs, and especially a lot of excruciating details imulating hardware is a waste. I want the least STUFF up there needed to do the job.
Another way to look at it -sliders are better for mousing than knobs. Popping up a few larger, cleaner displays rather than trying to have it all up at the same time.
:p :p :D :D

Oh, and I don't want to miss another chance to say how preety the Timeworks stuff looks, and how bad the GUI SUCKS.
:p :p

Really? I think it's good... :)

OK... so here is a thought... if Cakewalk release a better version of the Console View... would people use it over Track View....

ie... more customizable & a better channel strip (ie EQ & Dynamics on all channels that have to be enabled to be active, but are there....) with the possibility of 'skins' to look like different consoles... like a Neve, SSL etc....

Feedback?

Actually this IS possible, it will make the console taller instead, I don't remember right now how it's done, but I will find out for you, it's kinda like the track view customizations discussed in a different thread..

This is in the Sonar "read me" file, it should do the trick for you...

Layout of Aux Sends in Console View

The Console view supports a special CAKEWALK.INI setting:

[Console View]
TileConsoleAuxSends=<1 or 0, default=1>

When set to 0, the send sliders and enable buttons for an audio module are lined up top to bottom and do not wrap. Tiling occurs when you have more than 4 aux sends configured). This option is useful if you prefer to use more vertical space in the console than horizontal.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot and let you know the results.

OK, that's much better. Still, things just sound better in track view:eek:

Two things. Would you want all the channels to have all these eq and dynamics details even if they weren't in use.
And what if you didn't want to just use Cake's eq's and comps? (Everyone's plugs look different...)

I agree, I know that somewhere back in this thread I said that the console view was ugly, but on reconsideration, it is pretty good for what it is, and what it does. I do kinda like the "skins" idea, I also run CEP 2.1 and really like that I can change the color/shade of the entire program, not just it's elements, I have mine setup to be a darker grey, just about the color of a Mackie mixer...

I for one, am quite okay with not having the EQ and dynamics actually built into the console strip, I do prefer having the channel modules as streamlined as possible, as they are now, they have all the required functions in pretty much all the right places.
