I've been fighting the Console View War (from now on CVW ) for a loooong time. Welcome aboard! :)

pic is too big... if it weren't for moskus I would be the only person on the planet that digs the console view...

It's a graphics thing,is'nt it?

I'm sure there are still some people with eight track tapes(the seventies type for you youngsters) and beta camcorders who still can't let go.
You console view diehards remind me of that Japanese guy who holed up on an island and continued to fight "WWII" into the seventies.   :o :p :D

Yeah, you should tell the "pros" that they should give up their consoles.... :D

Ya know if you ask me... watching the pretty, pretty, waveforms roll by, WHEN TRACKING is just the graphics thing, nothin' but eye candy, on the other hand, in the console view(which is pretty damn ugly in Sonar), you are really only interested in the meters, and the way it sounds...DAMN IT JIM! I"M RECORDING!

please excuse my.. umm "artwork", this would be the bomb :D

This is how I have Sonar set up to open, it is my standard starting point for a project.

OK, moskus, I give. What is that in the lower right hand corner? Is that the B3 plugin?

BTW, one of the notes on track 15 looks like it's sharp.

:D :D

Yes, it's on full screen all the time. And WinXP handles it like two screens, but a screen capture will capture both as one big screen.

:)

so while your tracking/recording, you are able to see both trackview and console view using WinXP on one monitor???
how do you set that up?

ohhhhh....wait a sec.....
just dont maximize the screens and stretch them out as far as they will go without interfering with one another.
its still early in NY....... :o

No, not really. It's 2 different monitors, and Windows XP is capable of working with 2 monitors (so is Win2000 for that matter), it's just that the "Screen capture" function (the Print Screen-button next to the Scroll Lock-button) sees the two monitors as one big monitor.

So yeah, I can see the Track View and the Console View (and the Piano Roll) at the same time during tracking and mixing. :)

It's very easy to set up. You need a dual-head AGP video-card or one AGP card and a PCI-card. Windows takes care of the rest.

ok, gotchya........
ill stick with my single monitor for now. LOL!!!!!

There's a standard Windows function menu up in the top bar, think it's the 'Tile' in 'columns' that does that (on a single monitor). My setup is like Moskus's except I have each view covering about 75% of the screen (Track to the left, console to the right), either can pop to the front with a click.
Moskus, is what you described different? -you're actually using two monitors?
Also, what are the chanels in the middle of the console that look different than the others?

Yes, I'm sitting in front of two monitors. :) It's excellent!

When you open up the Console View, click on the icon in the upper left corner and select "Enable Floating". That way the Console View can be floated to my right screen (outside Sonars main work window). The only window in Sonar who cannot be floated is the Track View.

Count me in for the console view option. I get a better look at the whole composition. Which looks much better than it sounds lately :( By the way that note was flat not sharp with my magnifying glass:D

peace

OVER?

It aint over till I say it's over.Perhaps you console using deviates recruited some unsuspecting stooges to do your dirty work.I'm sure there were dark days even for Luke Skywalker, but in the end the force was with him and the dark side was defeated!;) :D
