I have NOT abandoned on the MR-8. I think that after I get the MR-8 and some decent mics, I will save up and learn to use my equipment well. Read books, and memorize those user manuals! I am also going to be taking some MIW Workshop's and Classes to help me become more knowledgeable. After I record a few other people who mainly only want to record one track at a time, I will then earn the money and buy the Soundcraft M12 Mixer. I am wondering why I would ever need the soundcard in the first place?? www.miworkshop.com
Is the point of the soundcard so I could run the mixer straight to the computer? I think that is what the purpose of it is.

What I meant by my budget is, that was my budget strictly for the Soundcard.

You got it right on the purpose of the soundcard. The reason I asked if you were abandoning the MR-8 is because it seems to me that your choice would be between the MR-8 and a soundcard.
In other words, if you have a computer to record to, a soundcard and mixer could replace the MR-8. If you compare the MR-8 to the Delta 1010lt, they are in the same price range. The Delta has two mic preamps, and has much more flexibiliity than the MR-8.
You could use a software mixer until you could get an M12.

So are you saying there is no purpose for using the Fostex MR-8 and the Soundcraft M12 together??? Let's say I recorded something. Couldn't I mix it with the Soundcraft, and then put it on the computer??

"So are you saying there is no purpose for using the Fostex MR-8 and the Soundcraft M12 together???"
You could and the preamps would be better than the MR-8,but the mr8 is still limited to 2 tracks at a time. You wouldnt be using the preamps or the mixer section on the Mr-8. That leaves you with the effects and Hard drive space on the MR-8. Thats basically a waste.

Still sounds like your using the MR-8 for a spdif card or Hard drive.

Unless you need the MR-8 for portability I myself would buy the Delta (Much better unit all around including preamps and Number of tracks you can record at one time) And use the software mixer that comes with it until you save enough for the external mixer.
Just my Opinion.

I think I am going to go with the MR8 because it will be a great digital interface with me. I also WILL use the computer for Editing purposes, but I like the external consoles a bit more. The portability is also a great touch. So I probably won't buy the soundcard, and get the MR8, and then later get the Mixer. Thanks a lot for the information!
