Hey guys im looking for a cheap large diaphram condenser mic and was wondering if you guys could give me any advice. Im only looking for a budget one and have been looking at the Behringer B1 and the Samson CO1. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx, Gaz.

We Brits really do have crap choices, don't we

If you're in one of the territories covered by the Digital Village franchise go take a listen to the Studio Projects mics. If you aren't buy one anyway and return it if you don't like it.

And define cheap

Consider the Oktava 319, I have a 219 and the sounds pretty darn good for a 'budget mic'

The 319 is $100.00 US

Or step-up to a Shure KSM27 - $300.00 US

If your looking to mic your drum kit Nady has a kit but I know nothing about the quality of these mics.

you might look at an audio-technica at3035.

studio projects has a uk distribution center now. the studio projects b1 can be impressive in certain applications. you might check out the studioprojectsusa.com website to hook up with the uk distributor.

On your side of "the pond", I would consider Rode and AKG mics. Studio Projects mics are just fine, but the price point in the UK isn't as hot. Consider AKG C2000B, a versatile mid-size diaphragm studio workhorse that is quite usable for vocals and acoustic instuments. It has bass rolloff, a 10dB pad, and is a fixed cardioid mic. I consider it vastly superior to the C3000B, which is a multipattern doorstop.-Richie

Actually the B3 is only about £10 more than the C2000B, so it'd be a toss up between whether you want the separate High Pass Filter and 10 dB pad switches offered on the latter; or the three pick up patterns offered on the former.

Nowt wrong with the Berry B1, fine mic for the price.

If you can afford a few quid more and want a good all-rounder then have a listen to a Rode NT1000 IMO the best bang for your bucks (shag for yer quid ?).

I find the prices and service at Diggy Village to be pretty good, go and have a listen.

Beware of the Berry haters, them Buggers will bite yer balls.
