The Home Recording Web Site gives the following advice regarding computer settings for recording :-

* Note for people cool enough to check out the asterisk: if you go to the Advanced options for recording in the volume control, you will find a check box for controlling "monitor output". This is not for your studio monitors, but allows you to listen to what you're recording through your speakers. In almost all cases, checking this box will cause INCREDIBLY LOUD DIGITAL-QUALITY FEEDBACK THAT WILL BLOW YOUR EARS OFF.
So don't say you weren't warned :-)

My problem is that the "Advanced options" is not accessable. I can't turn off the monitor output, and yes, my ears are being blown off !!!

Can anyone suggest a solution.

what soundcard, operating system are you using? Some cards' softeware takes over all those audio functions and you have to control volume from there. The normal Windows controls may not even be accessable and this is normal.

G'day ap,

I recently had my PC upgraded. My motherboard (MMI brand) has a Creative ES1373 chip on board (PCI128). I am operating under Windows 98.

The User's Manual for the Motherboard says that the accompanying CD has a detailed User's Manual for the Creative Audio Driver. No such luck. The path does not match what's on the CD!!!

I've tried searching the WEB for some clues, or a manual, but no luck.

Hope you can suggest something.

Cheers

Let's make sure you're doing this right...

1) Right click on the speaker in the tray
2) Select "Open Volume Controls"
3) Click on "Options" then "Properties"
4) In the new window that comes up, click on the radio button next to "Recording"
5) Click "OK"
6) Now click on "Options" and then "Advanced Controls"
7) Then click on the button that appears called "Advanced"
8) At the bottom of the window that comes up, you'll see the check box you're looking for

I'm not trying to treat you like you're dumb, but I didn't want to leave anything out either.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the interest. I got as far as No.6 then I'm stuck. I can't access "Advanced Controls".

Any ideas?
