Computer recording must suck

It just sucks when the guy that "can do anything with a computer" isn't around when you're trying to solve a conflict with your drivers at 2 am and you're down to your last carton of smokes, and you really just wanna play the damn guitar. In my head I see a little mario guy beating a bonzai buddy over the head with a pipewrench and chasing him around the circuit board... "while my guitar gently weeps." Thank God there are some cool cats around here willing to go out of their way to help guys like me get started, and the torch slowly gets passed.

It'd be a pretty boring forum if all you ever read was:

"I love my computer. No problems. This is great."

Of course there's going to be a lot of posts to the contrary, that's what threaded discussions are for, people helping people.

I can't imagine going back to stand alone crap. What a frustrating nightmare looking at little LCD screens.

Every time I view new post practically the whole first page is problems with computer recording. "Help me with cakewalk, sonar, plug-ins, no sound, will not record, will not play" What’s the deal? Seems like its a lot of trouble. I’m not overly thrilled with my Adat but its problem free and user-friendly. Hope i never get in to computer recording!
This is something of a tangent, but maybe it'll work.

There is (or was) a mexican restaurant called Kachina on top of the Wells Fargo building in downtown LA. Everytime I'd go all the conversation was about computers. Nothing else. Computer problem this or computer problem that. I couldn't figure out why everybody was talking about computers.

It was only because the job of everybody who was eating there was dealing with... computers! The freaking bankers were eating somewhere else.

Of COURSE a banker eating at Kachina was going to think computers suck. It was a hot spot of computer issues. Same thing here.

If I was hanging around a forum where only analog issues were discussed, I'd probably think analog sucked.

I'm the computer guy for 2 studios in DC.

One of which has computer literate owners/in-house producers who rarely call me unless it is a doozy.

The other is a computer idiot, who calls me constantly over stupid sh**. some of which has nothing to do with his studio computers.

i prefer the 2nd to the first because i charge him $35 per hour for any time i spend at his spot.

but i digress, the point is a little computer knowledge goes a long way. a lack of computer knowledge costs plenty. computers weren't built for audio. ADATs were. that's called Reduced Instruction Set Computing.
