hey whats up im kind of a newbie , Ive been using Cool edit pro to do most of my stuff but thats not my question , right now my "equipment" is my computer the Mic in my Monitor , the computers speakers .........i use cool edit to mess with the Multitrackin , vocals an instrumentals , BUT the thing is i wanna buy some stuff ........ but i dont know what i should start with ......And i KNow you guys will say a mic ....... other than that what should i buy or do i have what i need?

If you're using the microphone in your monitor, I'd venture a guess that you'd see a vast improvement in the quality of your recordings by getting a microphone and a preamp. It's hard to say for sure, though, without knowing a few details about what you're hoping to accomplish. What kind of music you want to record, what instruments you play, etc.

mostly HIp hop , well im mainly after Vocals , no instruments , i got beats all ready to go , its mainly vocals ............ i wanna get a better quality out of vocals so it has a better sound to the music i guess? , cuz some songs i record the vocals Blend Beautifully with the beat , an others seem to have a cheap sound no matter how i tune the vocal sounds .........i know it has to do with the mic , but any suggestions on what else to buy.....you mentioned a preamp?

ok i got it , my question IS WHat is your guys Setup , like is it a computer with some sort of program , and a Mic and Whatelse................... besides instruments an stuff

The preamp amplifies the relatively weak signal from the microphone to a level that your computer's sound card can accept at its line input. (Most sound card mic inputs are next to useless.) I use this preamp (click), mainly because it's cheap. I'm not unhappy with it. I have no experience with other low-cost preamps, so I can't make any other recommendations. (You didn't mention what your budget is, so I'm assuming you don't want to spend tons of cash.)

monitors

I would definately buy some quality monitors (speakers) first; how else will you really know what your beats and vocals sound like? Next I would invest in a good quality microphone. I would also strongly look into a soundcard made for recording, most OEM soundcards (in my experience) buzz, hiss and make poor quality rexcordings.
