Compression pedal - what do you use it for

i believe on this amp it does. it's an eden traveler with built in compression. the louder i get, the more it compresses the harder notes i play, thereby limiting the overall sound so much that it can't be heard over drums/guitar

Next to the blue 'Gain' knob is a gray 'Enhance' control. This is the compressor. It will pull out to bypass the compressor. You're lucky. The N28 won't let you defeat the 'automatic compression' or AGC.

Every compressor has a ratio. As I understand it, a ratio below 1:10 indicates a compressor, where a ration greater than 1:10 would suggest a limiter. Looking at an example, a ratio of 5:1 suggests that a signal surpassing the compression threshold by 5db will actually be output at +1db, not +5 db. But what you're describing sounds more like hard limiting than compression.

ranjam, you know what sucks? i thought this same thing. however, it turns out this head is the WT-300 i think, aka the ONE head that doesn't have the PUSH PULL knob on the enhancer to cut off the compressor! haha i was so mad when i saw this. it's always on compression and it can't be defeated.

tele, perhaps it is. they call it a 'compressor' but it doesn't seem to sustain a note any better than my non-compressed head would. maybe it really is just a hard limiter? once i pound the string and play hard (sorry, that's how i play lol i'm aggressive) the db level just drops so significantly that you can't hear it over the drums/guitar. in order to get over this, i turned down the bass knob on my active EQ of the G&L as well as the bass on the head, and i turned the treble boost knob to the high position so i get nice high ends, and then i run an OD pedal in front with very little gain, tone knob around 1:00, and level at 12:00. since the boss OD (yellow one) drops out low end freqs anyway, it's cutting even more low and giving me my beloved midrange. however, it's still loud and still very bassy, but it doesn't have those nasty house-resonating overtones, as it would if the bass knob were jacked up to 10. it cuts through, now mainly because it's got some gain to it and the pedal seems to kill the compression a BIT, but i still find myself having the master volume set at around 3:00, with the gain around 2:00 on the head. anything less for both results in not being able to hear at all.

what was that model again? The drummer and I wanna pitch in and get our bass player one of those :D
