Hey all,
I'm new here but I've been on the Pearl Drummers Forum for ages.
I'm looking to start saving up for recording equipment and I have some questions.
I want to record me and my band (I'm the drummer, duh!) And I'd want to have all the mics to end up on their own channel in the software so I could edit them seperately etc.
This would be the equipment I'd be getting:
http://www.behringer.com/SL2442FX-PRO/index.cfm?lang=ENG
I'd use this to connect the mics to, and then run a cable from each of the Insert I/O in it (with a mic connected to the XLR input) to the "Unbalanced Inputs" in the back of one of these:
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FireWire1814-main.html
Then I'd connect that to my PC via Firewire.
Would this work? If it wouldn't could you please show me what would?
Also if this would work, I'd use Ableton Live Lite 4 which comes with the M-Audio 18/14 to record with. Would this program recognize that each of the mics should be going into seperate tracks?
I know what mics I'd be getting, if I could get your help it would be great!

use the search facility & there in you will find an amasing derth of knowledge & information

first.....load ableton live onto your pc.....then load the firewire interface....and when you open abletons preference chose the firewire for you in/out .....but your best bet is to go with the http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Delta1010/ interface...easier connection for that board and expandable when needed and cheaper...also that board only has inserts so when you plug in your 1/4 ts cable only push in to the first click, that is the only way you're going to get every drum to have its own channel

1 kick
2 snare
3 hi tom
4 mid tom
5 floor tom
6 left overhead
7 right overhead
8 bass or guitar scratch track

Oh, is that because it's an I/O so if you plug it in fully it will go to out?
Also, I've heard about the Delta 1010, but it's PCI and my laptop doesn't have that.
Thanks for the help!

Sounds like all you need are preamps, id say, if you need M-AUDIO products for Pro Tools (which I do), just buy a 1u box with 8 or so preamps, skip they behringer, to noisey.

Unless you need it for live preformence, then go for Makie.

Ok, could you point me in the right direction (Linky?) Would the preamps do the same job?

Why not just get a Firewire Mixer which is a Mixer and an Interface in One....

Something like the "Alesis 16 Channel FW Mixer" which will let you record 16 seperate Tracks at the same time which is Plenty enough tracks to record a Whole Band and a full drum kit and still have Inputs left over...

Or the "Mackie OnyX 400F" but it doesn"t has as many Inputs and costs a lot more but will probably produce better quality recordings....

cheers
