here is a tune I entered in the colegate country showdown. It is probably too traditional, but im going to give it a shot.

Old school shit kickin' country ain't cool right now....country must sound like a "pop" production to be "a good song"
oh well....I like it, so at least 1 person likes it.

the women and the wine

Hey Jim,

My post got messed up.....guess I'll type it again...

Your song reminds me of Hank Jr.....mid eighties...Lyrically I thought it was fine....recording wise, pretty good too.

One thing I would probably do is have the drummer play with more pop in his rythm....lay the foundation of the song a little tighter...

I thought the mix was pretty decent.....good job.

thanks 79 les paul.

Im not really that happy with the recording...but it was all I had when the entry deadline rolled around.

Ya..recording could be better...I hope you paid the pedal steel player good $ for that session...his shit was sweet. The banjo coming in on what? second verse?..sounded gr8 there. The vocals had a couple of intonation hassles here and there, but if Hank were singing it...you wouldn't need to worry. Did I just listen to an 18 bar country progression??...Man that's aliitle hard to take...that extra E chord in the 7th bar..makes me feel like I just tripped over something...probably my beer...hehehe...gl

Great music! Not my style of music but can be enjoyed. The only thing is the drummer... it's too simple. The cuts are way too simple compared to what is else is going on musically. Maybe I'm off but the drummer doesn't seem to be much into the feel of the song. But maybe it's just me.

that was my junk throated singing without punching in...so...

"The vocals had a couple of intonation hassles here and there" is a compliment.

thanks!!

hehehhehe

thanks for giving it a listen guys

Hey Jimistone,

nice work. this is not the kind of music i listen to very often, but if I did, I'd say this is about as good as it gets.

REALLY clean mix. You gotta nice voice, too.

Keep posting stuff

Yeah, you've definitely worn out some Hank Jr. on the cassette player in your truck. :D

You're a talented mo fo. Bringing the drums up about 5db would have helped this a ton I think. I think the part's fine.

PdlStl could come up in the break some...who played that? If it's fake, just please don't tell me, b/c it totally works. I like your voice a ton. Character WITH pitch, lol. Seems to be a rare commodity these days.

Pretty good tune jimi...a bit reminiscent of Kris Kristofferson...if you do polish this one up a fiddle alongside the steel would add a nice feel...Brian
