I just bought a bunch of remnants from the fabric store: 6 mil mylar, vinyl, split cowhide, woven kevlar, and some red pantent leather.

This is gonna be fun experimenting with all these exciting materials!

Where can ya get small tanks of "heavy air"? I'm thinkin about converting my drums to sealed vessles, but I don't wanna just use regular air.

I'm sure the red patent leather will be the best.

Are you planning to play it or wear it? ;)

On toms i prefer Clear, Pinstripes. Try tape or moongel if they're too bright.

Yeah, I just grabbed coated pinstripes for everything. Got my first pre-set tuner. This oughta save some some time. Got some mics, too. Looking forward to some meatier tracks.

Pinstripes are ok - for rock, I have always preferred the clear remo emperor heads. . . coated ambassadors for snare, regardless.

The clear heads are a bit bright, but they will 'sing' more than the coated heads or (ugh) the hydraulic heads.

G2's on top G1's on bottom for all toms and kick. coated ambassador for the snare./

Hydraulics?!! ...how...uh ...70's!

Dead and lifeless. Might as well just cover the whole drum in duct tape!~Ugh!

Coated for a warmer sound, pinstripes for a darker sound and clear for nice articulation, sustain and sharp transients.

miroslav, don't arguing with Greg! He's right! The drum samples you have are worthless! Sounds like they were recorded with a single mic in a room with a cassette recorder.

Not to mention you just can get the better of the gerg! It just ain't possible.:D

When I used plastic I preferred coated Remo Ambassadors. I tried oil filled heads and found them too dead. The thing about Ambassadors is that you can tweak them with duct tape and pieces of felt, ...

Which also isn't necessary. I haven't had to dampen anything but the snare for years. Just tune them right. And I have only dampened the snare when I've been asked to record something like a country track.

I like coated Ambassadors on my kit. This is mostly because the kit is Indigo Blue, and the near-featureless, unlined frosty white tops look fantastic. It is also because they wear vividly, which shows off my accuracy with nice, tight, centered patterns. They sound good as well, which is a plus.

:D
