Since I bought this dog used, it could use a cleaning.

What are some good cleaners? Do I need offically licensed Tascam products or will spit and whiskey do?

The only place I have quick access to is Radio Shack, they have some head cleaning solvents

Also, to demagnetize. The only ones the "shack" has are tapes you stick into multitrack. Will this work, or should I get the teac demagnitizer.

I realize the prices for these items are minimal, but will these other products work?

Thanks,

First off, definately get the Teac demagnetizer. Do not use the tapes, they could possibly damage the unit. As far as cleaners go, you need isopropanol (sp?) alcohal to clean the heads and capstan post. For cleaning the pinch roller, use only the Tascam rubber cleaner. One bottle for $10 will last you a lifetime. If you don't have a local music store that carries these things, buy online.

Thanks! My lazy nature allows me to ask questions, then look for answers. I went to the Tascam site and then to the teac shop site and found everyting I needed and ordered online.

I would suggest any Tascam user's to check out that site.

*gulp!*

Hmmm, I think Tascam charges more if you buy direct than buying from somewhere else...but oh well, you may have lost a few C notes. Alls well that ends well, at least you got what you need to get recording! That's what counts :) Welcome to the board my friend.
