We were cleaning the garage and I tripped over my old Tascam 238 (rack mount 8 track cassette recorder). I'm interested in ideas/opinions from others who have old gear that cost a fortune at the time, but is now essentially worthless.

Is it worth the effort to blow this stuff out on eBay? I know many of you have bought stuff there, but haven;t heard much from sellers.

Thanks for any ideas.

I see the 238 averages about $150 on eBay. Hardly seems worth the hassle.

I got a Fostex 380-S 4 track cassette, gawd I payed over $750 bucks for it, think I got 10 hours of use on it... about 3 songs worth...LOL

I know - I think I recorded one tune on the 238! I ended up going back to my X-15 because it was so practical and simple.

I say keep it and use it too. I bought a Tascam 414MII Cassette last year new and I was going to ditch it cheap awhile back since I have the PC DAW and the VF 160 CDR. Then I found out that the Operating power for the 414MKII is 12 Volts DC. HEHEHE. It's staying. Cassettes are still plenitful and cheap. I can always make a Battery Pack and a plug to go into an auto Ciggarette Lighter Socket.

It'll do 4 Tracks at a time too! ;)
