Thanks for the suggestions,Lt Bob.I've remixed and reposted it with incremental changes in the directions that you and the others have suggested.
The biggest change was I put a compressor/limiter on the two bus whereas the mix you heard before had nothing on the master bus.I guess I consider the modern sound overprocessed and only reluctantly tart it up.Only verb is on the three vocal parts and a bit on the snare.Snare,kick,drum bus and lead vox have insert compressors.BG vox share an aux.
To combat mud,I rolled off the outro guitars -20 at 500 Hz!The rhythm guitars were -10 at 300 or so.All low frequency sounds like bass,kick and snare were sharply rolled off below 40 Hz to kill any rumble.
In terms of sparkle,the only real high frequency content I have in this mix is the cymbals.I put a -20 dB rolloff at 4000 Hz on the overheads and then raised them up a few dB in the mix.I can't go any more or the hihats will take your head off!
