Now I am getting blasted for typographical errors? Yes, I need to learn how to spell better and you need to learn how to read better; there, now we are even.

I guess it is time to liven it up around here a little ...

Mr. Harris ... Mabye we are both amusing each other, eh ... comrade? Admittingly you are one of the finest debaters that I have come across in cyberspace. Believe it or not, we might actually get along under differen't circumstances. I harbor no hard feeling towards you. There really is no need for us to be at odd's with each other. We both have learned something from each other in the least; what more can a person ask for from a good conversation?

I am not going soft mind you; I just thought that needed to be said that's
all ...

All of my songs are rooted in my personal reality in one way or another. I am, as I had mentioned before, an actor of all emotions. I believe everyone has thought somewhat similar things at one time or another about past relationship's that they have had. Sometimes a more general interpretation or connection to emotion is better subject matter than a singularly-related one. As in this case, by contemplating the merits and future of a relationship in jepordy, I think that this type of thing can be related to by everyone. If it is not relatable, then I admire those that haven't experienced anything but first-love type bliss. It is something to be valued for sure ...

Some new intellectual conversation? Here you go ...

Do you think any new sounds or styles are possible in today's world; or in the future, or both; or most probably never? Do really you think everything has been done before? Have all chords, melodies, time signature's, tempo patterns, instruments, and yes frequencies, been created already? This is a fundamental question that every artist should ask themselves. Has the ability to invent and manipulate increased at such an expedential rate that is undefinable? Or has it slowed to a pace that is stiffling, stagnant, and boring?
Given the rate of evolution of all recorded music, has the time come for a lull in progression; or is it just the begining of a new, exciting, and unimaginable era?

From the comment's and implication's that I have noted through some of you people's words, the answer is a resounding yes; everything has been done before. Take me, and what you think of my viewpoint out of the equation. Has everything been done before? When you sit down to write a song or a set of lyrics, do you begin with the notion that you are copying a riff or emotion from any example, either sonically or literary, that you have known before; or do you acknowledge, site, and then finally disregard what others have done before out of both respect and your ability to appreciate your capabilities in your own modern time period? Some of you are not as smart or as inventive as you think. Other's have yet to realize their magifigance and potential. Don't let some of my comment's fool you. I beleive that there are those on this very site that are both imaginative, and create beautiful music. Yet, why do some of this small group continue, in my opinion, to follow the same path as so many others have done before. Utilize your potential. If you can play and idolize Bach so well for example; then try doing what Bach might have probably suggested- be your own person with your own idea's and style. Damn the critiques and copy machines! You only get one chance at life, (unless you have money for clones and science labs), so you better make your mark while you can. I just think some of you are not reaching your true potential; but that's just my opinion. I am not implying to some of you that you are any less than complete master's of music that deserve respect. I am just saying that it is a shame to stiffle your own potential growth.

There are those that are created; and then there are those that create ...

I only had 2 CDs up until about 3 months ago. I started looking on amazon.com for used CDs of bands I liked but couldn't afford to buy. someone stole no need to argue years ago, and I always wanted to replace it. I've got all their CDs except the very last one now. Even though I typically prefer my women with a little more RUMP, I would have married Dolores if she'd just returned my phone calls!!!!

Yeah curse those rock stars, they always marry their managers.

Moral of the story: become a manager :D

Well, the three girlfriends I had before I was married, two of them I dumped, and the first one dumped me, but we had only been dating two weeks, and she dumped me because she was Baptist and caught me drinking at a HS football game, so calling her an evil bitch would have been a bit of a stretch . . . I guess I could cut a cover of the Dennis Leary "Asshole" tune, that would be a lot more accurate.

List of people I dont want writing my Eulogy

I've been a total dick in this thread, and even though it has been intended in fun, there's some stuff I'm not very proud about authoriing back there, lol. I thought your last post showed some class, Jesse'...

To your question...I think that even if every note has been played, every lyric has been sung, every progression progressed, and every sound imaginable has been played, it doesn't matter, because most of us have only heard .000000000000000001% of all the music that is available in the universe. Now, the more interesting question to me is "WHY" does so much of it sound so similar? Some people blame homogenation of radio, but I'm not in that camp; I'm sure ClearChannel has created more of a glut, but the truth is that it is just a mammoth marketing machine giving people what they seem to be able to digest with the least amount of gas. Call it "the lowest common denominator" if you want, but the problem I have with the whole "music is dying" crowd is that I still like a lot of what I hear on the radio, LOL. My own tunes seldom have more than 3 chords in them, but it's not a concious decision on my part...it's NOT like writing a Haiku where the form is set and you just have to fillin those pesky words...3 chords in a medium progression just seems to be what moves me. I have played every chord ever played on the guitar, and I have yet to find 3 that I like better than "G, C, and D," lol!!!

My OWN theory is that there is some kind of genetic component involved, which accounts for the "lowest common denominator" theory. The only proof I need of this is my own experience and that of my children. My parents were NOT music people at all, but they sure listened to a lot of crap (Kingston Trio, Neil Diamond, etc.). I don't think it's crap because it was popular, I think it's crap because I didn't like it, so throw the "environmental" factor out the window for me. But the first time I found my mom's old "Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water" album, I listened to it probably 100 times...I was maybe 6. I listened to it so much that my parents HAD to get me a turntable so that they could have their living room back. My daughter was like that with Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors." She was 5 when she first heard it, and I had to buy her a CD player so that I could reclaim my stereo. She STILL loves Fleetwood Mac, and she's 14, so it's not like it's the coolest thing in the world for her to be into. She and I happen to dig a ton of the same songs, if not the same bands. I don't think it's environmental, b/c her younger brother has absolutely no interest in music...but the YOUNGEST is now 4, and he's JUST LIKE my daughter...I had to buy him a CD player for his 4th birthday so that I could get my computer back because he was hooked on a few commercial songs that have the same progressions that I love. Here's a brain twister...I was playing back an instrumental version of the last song I recorded, and the little guy started humming the same melody that I'd written for the song, even though he'd never heard me sing it.

Obviously, what people like is probably at least PARTIALLY environmental, as my daughter never would have turned into a F.M. fan if I hadn't had the CD laying around my house...but I think there's a very very common thread that makes many people dig the same KIND of music, and I think it's the same thread that makes other people like Frank Zappa love something totally different. I used to think that people just got bored with 'normal' music and that's when they went to jazz or Zappa, but I don't think that anymore...I think people are hard-wired to like or dislike something from a very very young age, and even though the bands that we love may change as we age, the common thread of the music that we love does not.

I think it's very very cool to think about a 2 yr. old kid shitting his pants right now somewhere who will write something one day that will absolutely knock my lights out. But chances are, it'll only have 3 chords, LOL

Both of us have made comments that may not have truthfully divulged our real character's. All is fair in love and war though huh? Rock on ...

The observations about your children are truthful and not isolated. I have seen similar behavior from my own kids. My children have usaully been in the same room or the next room on everyone of my recordings. I don't know if it is simple repetiton or not, but they seem to pick up melodies; and ESPESCIALLY lyrics much easier and faster than I could have at the same ages. Mabye that is where the true answer lies. Children. And most probably, their enviorment. Even if a parent's taste's are nowhere near their childrens for whatever reason, (age, enviorment, race, etc.), the intelligence level and open-mindedness of the children, (the future creators of thought and sound), I believe depend on the parents; or sadly and unfortunately enough in today's world, caregivers, teachers, and babysitters as well. One "x" factor, as it were, could be technology itself. With the era of recorded music, has come the humungous amount and ease of the influx of technoologies, information, and communication. A child today is exposed to many more influences, both good and bad, than any generation before. Does that mean a higher acceptance or utilization of this information and ability to communicate? Unfortunately no, not for all but it does for most. I am constantly irritated by those of any generation, but most notably the "baby-boomers"; that claim to have a lock on all common sense, and more of an insight into especially music, due to their parallel maturation with the marketing of what "popular" music was or has become. As you have probably noticed, I have particularly singled out this group in many of my negative comments. With all the promise and intellegence that was encouraged and shown in the fifties and sixties, really, what has become of it? Look at the state of the world today and you will understand. So much lost potential is indeed a shame. Not adimiting to the responsibilities and error's of this group of people is definatley in my opinion, ego driven, (there can be too much of a good thing I guess ...). Not to say that this is not possible with any geration; it just seems more prominant with this group. I guess we will see what happens when the next generation goes into their mid-life crisis stage; HOLY SHIT! that's me! But I digress ...

The expedential rate of the growth of technology in all aspects of life definately makes comments on the future of music and the world probably useless. I think most humans sense a change of gigantic proportions coming. What that is, is another question. God; aliens; natural disaster; or nuclear war; ... it could be any of these. Or, it could just be the sense of impending and unavoidable death; or the need to hunt and travel, (which has been stifled and stunted- but never eliminated), as felt by the first sentient species that crawled out of the oceans. Which ever it may be, something that will change all life is always coming and unavoidable. What a wonderful time to be alive!

... And Blue Bear ...

As much as I can respect the intelligence level, capabilities, and achievments of Mr. Harris, is as much as I cannot do the same for you. Join in and make some comments that are noteworthy will you? Your stale "act" is lame, and now it is getting repetitive. You can only say that my music sucks so many times! Show some originality in your insults at least! You are like the annoying side-kick that comes in for the predicatble and dim-witted "Yeah ... What he said" type of comment. I have taken it easy on you due to your seemingly stunted communication skills. If you persist in this nonsense of yours I am afraid I am going to have one my less-cleanly lady-friend's shit on you. But you are probably used to, and like that sort of thing ...

And it don't stop!

Yeeaahhh bboooyyyeeeeeee!

Sorry, we justed needed a little humor to lighten-up the mood again ...

For your information I do not have to work. I am sufficiently taken care of by a woman.

So what you are saying is that you have ALL the time in the world to do whatever you want (music I assume, or maybe not...) and THIS IS THE BEST YOU CAN COME UP WITH?

ROFL!!!!

I produce a band of 18 year old college students that have work and school who destroy anything your 33 year old ass can do. Plus, you are 33 and still trying to 'make it'... hahahha... maybe if MTV knocks on your door for a reality show you can 'make it' in a William Hung sort of way for a few months as a laughingstock.

Plus, if you're so 'sufficiently' taken care of, why don't you have recording gear that doesn't sound like wheezy poo? A Digi02 isn't that expensive and sounds decent... plus I think it comes with an autotune for those pesky vocals.

Oh Geeze.
I listened. Now my head hurts, and I have a headache.

A cacophony of instruments is not music.

Hey, dickwad. Could you just get the fuck lost. We've had our fun making you look like an ass. We are getting tired of your dribble. Now, begone with your loser self would ya. You suck. You always will suck. And until you produce material with the quality as the likes of Mr. Harris and some of the others round these parts, you've got no voice here.

Get lost! Punk!

Piss off..................

... And I thought we were all going to start getting into some interesting and intelligent conversation again. Oh well, here we go again ...

It seems that I am quite worthy of your time after-all. Do you have a girlfriend? Mabye you should get one. I mean, hey, I appreciate you thinking about me ALL THE TIME, but this might be starting to get unhealthy for
you ...

I would rather be "Hung" and unknown, than just plain unknown after I had spent all that time, money, and effort on a business; only to have it flounder while I devote my time to worship little old me as much as you have. Come on; where are all those clients you were talking about? Shoudn't you be working right now? Damn, I mean you are promoting me almost as much as I am. I appreciate it, but if you are looking to get on the payroll, the only thing that I can offer is a little exposure for you while you ride on my coat-tails. It's okay ... I know you aren't smart enough to spend this time and effort on your own group's or material, but if this is what you wan't to do; cool, it only helps me.

Now for the age issue ...

First; if some eighteen year-olds are better than me, then more power to them. The world needs more great young musicians. You see, I won't stoop to your level and rag on someone who is actually "in the game" trying to make it, (people not just on the sidelines screaming foolish insults). And who said MTV is what I had in mind in terms of what I view as success? I would love to be on MTV, but is this my ultimate and defining goal? No. Like I had mentioned before, I have other aims in mind that are more personal, like living forever in the minds of those that are alive and those to come. "Money is a tool in this world", ... as goes one of my songs. If I can make some cash to help out my family, then that would be great; but there are much more pleasnt and useful things in this life to focus on ... like happiness and serenity.

If you had learned how to read, you would have seen that I have only been "public" for a short time. Why have you not heard of me in the years before? I had worked and supported myself since I was fifeteen, and spent my time devoting myself to the American dream. Five years ago I had no equipment, no recordings, little hope, and only fond memories of my own playing. I realized what a shame that was and started the long road back to being able to do what I really wanted to do.

Now fast forward to the present. After some set-backs, I have finally been able to attain the minimum amount of tools that I needed to make a go of it. It is not easy with four kids, to financially, and within a timely manner, accomplish what I have. I would say that I have not done so bad considering once again, with little money, and with only myself to depend on, I am able to market myself more effectively than those of you with all the money and time in the world.

Is that what pisses you off the most? That some of you can't even get a filthy whore to shit on you, but here I am doing what you can only dream about. Keep talking and coming up with those new threads that are devoted to me. I am sure that all of your paying customers are content to have their money sitting there, thinking and writng about me. Should I be an asshole and start posting my own little threads all around the net showing your customers what you are doing with their time and money? Ooohhhh ... I am sure that some of them would be quite upset; I know I would. So, ... you see you pathetic little men, if you want start palying hardball, you are the only one's that are going to get hurt.

The truth has been heard.

The legend has spoken.
