I picked the Xenyx series over the older ones. But mine is the 2442Fx.
Depends on how much money you got and what do you need it for.

I'm quite curious myself as to whether the lower-end mixers of that series are any good. I'm just looking for something with about 8-10 channels and decent preamps.

no to Behringer

i would say whatever you go with, dont go with Behringer. You can get better quality for not that much more money with something else.
