Even if Tape Op is free, they have a right to manage their intellectual property as they see fit.-Richie
I agree completely. My point was that it's easy for anyone to pick up a copy to read the full review.

What he said.I'd go with a pair of the Naiant mics for the acoustic, then use the rest of the money for two used Oktava MK-012 mics. You should be able to come in at or around $400 for all four put together. Omni mics like the Naiant are great for acoustic guitar, and the Oktavas make great overheads.
i actually own a pair of [Naiants]
ouchTry to read the thread, y'all . . .
-- which model do you have, Robertt8?Tape Op doesn't release their articles online until after a year. Please don't scan and post here, I will have to remove due to copyright.

That's all true. However...
I'm going to post an expanded version of the article on small diaphragm mics at my own website with Tape Op's blessing. We had to cut it, so some of the descriptions of the mics are a bit thin to say the least.
I hope to have it up this week and when I do I'll post the link here.

PS -- And just for the record, the copyrights to all Tape Op articles are retained by the writers of the articles themselves. One of the reasons I like working for them.
Looking for a good cheap matched pair of small diaphragm cardioid condensers for recording acoustic guitar (fairly natural sound) and possibly use on drum overheads. Has anyone come across anything that could easily flip the bill for under $400 total?
If there are any little gems out there that anyone knows about for far less, well...that would be even better.
As promised.
The article is still a work in progress -- I tested yet another Mark Fouxman SD mic mod less than three weeks ago. It's a good one, too.
I'll keep adding new mics and opinions as results warrant.
