Cheap Kick Mics

I was originally planning to make a subkick actually, but apparently the guy I spoke with said it was not worth it. Still, I probably will try it one day.

If it's your only kick mic then I agree. However paired with another mic (even a sm57) and it's well worth it.

I've had an Audix F14 and an Audix D6 in my studio at one time and honestly I would have been happy with either of them. The only difference was the curve was slightly different (but similar) and the D6 picked up more bottom end (shit under 50hz).

The problem is I don't know how you aquire a f14 outside of the package.

Another mic that I thought sounded ok was the blue kickball (and at one point I know these could be found for $50):

No one has mention good drum microphones that can be had USED!

Thats where I'm looking. I only go for the used stuff when it gets expensive. Besides, why pay full price when you get the same thing for a couple scratches and a lot less money? :D

Hmm, I'll look into it. I'll check on eBay for the F14. I think the D6 sounds really nice, but a bit overrated in my opinion. It has it's pro's and con's (as with everything). Thats all I gotta say :P
Thanks :)

If you don't like the D6 you will definitely not like the F14.

I didn't say I didn't like it :D
But I'm scouring eBay right now, but nothing is really turning up. Besides a Nady DM90 and a CAD kick mic. But I'll wait it out for a while more while I can and see what I can find for a good price.

Oh ok, I'm just stating that they were very similar mics. I'm kind of curious how the PG52 compares to the beta 52a.

I just noticed today that they are selling them at Sweetwaters for the same price. So I'm guessing they would both be of equal quality and such.
I would be interesting in hearing the differences too...
