The DBX 242 is a great unit if you can find them around $80-100 each, used. You can't beat them for that price range. Heck, even if they were twice that, I think they'd be worth it.
What I do like about the DBX is that is has better markings so that you can make more precise settings. With the Speck, markings can be sparse compared to the DBX, but this is a minor "inconvenience" (if any).
In summary,
They Specks are awesome.
The DBX 242's are one of the best values in the used eq. market.

My understanding is that SafeSound has a channel strip in the pipeline that includes EQ. If the performance is as sweet as claimed for the P1, that could be a damn near an ideal solution for a lot of people going to disk: nice mic pre, instrument and line inputs, compressor, expander, EQ, limiter, and monitoring. What other box can do all those things well, doesn't cost $2,000, and isn't made in China? This is all speculation until it arrives, but I'm interested.
