Apologies if this has been addressed before. I saw several topics that were similar but not quite what I was looking for. Here is my question.

I am currently writing a song that has several uneven tempo changes. Currently, I have about 2.5 minutes of a song in one tempo @225 bpm, and when that ends, it slows to 140 bpm. Try as I may, I cannot get the tempo to change at the marker from 225 to 140. It puts all the drums in one or the other. I got around this before simply by creating separate project files for each tempo and then connecting the WAV files in Garage Band or DP once they were bounced, but then I can't really mix the drums once they're bounced in relation to the other instruments.

I tried creating a separate track within the project file, and pasting the drums for the 140 bpm part at the marker, but it plays in piano. Sounds cool, but I forgot how to change the MIDI to EZdrummer. I know it's something simple that I am missing. It has to be.

And no, I don't have the manual.

Edit: Using Cubase Studio 4 with EZdrummer/Drumkit From Hell.

On the Transport panel, you have to click on Tempo and it will toggle between Track or Fixed. You want Track. Then go to the Menu bar and select Project>Tempo Track. You can edit your tempo there.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Chili. I spent about 2 hours earlier trying to change the tempo with the tempo track widget, and my only mistake was I had the object selector activated and not the pencil. I got it working now, it's going to make my drum composition so much easier.

I like to use the Browser to set up tempo tracks.

I use Cubase 4, i don't know if your version is the same.

If you go to the Project Menu up top and choose the Browser you get this screen:

BROWSE.jpg

1. select Tempo Track (note that the Signature Track is under this and it works the same for making up different time signatures )

2. hit add

3. a tempo change will be entered wherever the song is stopped (see below)

4. here's where you enter the new tempo

5. hit this when you're finished

You can use the computer's delete button to delete tempo changes

Note that in #3 above, the tempo entered when you press "add" gets it's location from here (circled):

So you can just have the song playing and hit stop and add a tempo change right where you stopped.

Cubase often has a few different ways of doing the same thing depending on how you like to work.

Excellent! That might be easier, I'll have to test it out when I have some time. Thank you.
