Changing from 24bit to 16bit recording

I have the 16bit version of NTrack but when I record it records at 24 and after about 30 seconds a message comes up and tell me to purchase the 24bit version. I've tried to switch to 16bit but can't find the switch to do this. The help file said "Input/Output" will let me change to 16bit but I can't find that either. I fell like a dumb ass because I normally can figure simple stuff out but this is driving me nuts.

BTW: Why would the 16bit version default to 24bit recording?

Here's what I do:

Click on the Recording VU meter button on the tool bar.

Hit the RIGHT button on the Recording VU meter.

You will see several bit options. 16 bit, and three 24 bit options.

Choose 16 bit.

Click ok.

Eh voila!!

If you have a 24 bit sound card, N-track will default to 24.
And setting it to 16 bit won't get you around that error.

With a 24 bit card, N-track internally is using 24, even if you set it to 16 bit tracking. There is something about this in the FAQ on fasoft.com. If so, you must use the 24 bit registration.

You didn't say what sound card you are using, so I thought I'd toss this in here. It may not apply to you.

I ran into this when I got my Delta 66 card.

Thanks TomD, I'm using a delta1010. I thought I'd purchase the 16bit version first, just to see if I liked it. But it looks like I'm gonna' upgrade to the 24bit just to test it out.

Kinda sucks but not a big deal.

when I finally upgraded my soundcard to a delta series...I suddenly found I couldn't record anymore!!!...(until I upgraded to the 24 bit version)...Imagine the joy and delight in ones eyes upon installing a nice piece of gear, only to find out that I had to wait til payday to upgrade my software, before I could use it. I can relate!
