ceiling question

Hi everyone,

So I'm about 2/3 finished my basement studio. It's in a space about 11 X 14 feet (7 feet high). The walls are staggered stud design with two layers of 5/8" drywall on the outside, and will soon be two layers of something on the inside.

The walls do not contact the rest of the building except for the concrete on which they stand. The ceiling joists have not only been stuffed with insulation, but they have strips of drywall running inside them to seal up the space.

The ceiling for the room will be mounted on resilient channels with one or two layers of material attached. My question is this: since the side walls don't contact the upper floor, won't the sound have a tendency to come out through the corner of the ceiling (where it meets the wall) and then over the side wall?

Am I just being paranoid?

Kurt - we might need a drawing here. From your description I'm not sure how you have built this - How do the walls meet your new resilient channeled ceiling??

cheers
john
