CC 11 problems

Hi,

I discovered a big annoying inconvenience about CC 11 (expression) in HS 2002.

For example, a note is drawn in the piano roll from 1:02:000 through 1:02:479

A followed CC 11 is applied starting at the value 127 and ending to the value 30 from 1:02:000 through 1:02:479

At 1:03:000 a CC 11, having the value of 127, is applied to reset the full expression of the channel

But the velocity note last with the full 127 value at 1:02:479. To avoid this ending velocity jump the 127 value must be drawn at about 1:03:060

Any thoughts about this ?

Thanks in advance,

Hi there, SergeD :)
It's not actualy HS2002 problem :) I mean, I think the note you draw must have decay / sustained tail as a nature of it's original sound. If you 'cut' the note in say 1:02:479, and applied CC11 value 127 to reset the level to original again on the measure/tick too close to that point (near 1:02:479), then it will affect the tail of the note you drawn. When the measure/tick goes to 1:03:060, then the decay has rolled out already, thus you don't hear the level jump. I might be wrong anyway, hope it helps :)
To avoid this things, I suggest either just place the CC11 value 127 NOT to close to the tail of the note drawn (as you describe by putting it on 1:03:060), or set different track / channel assigned to same bank / patch and devide your sequenced MIDI track so they can be controlled separatelly.

Thanks James,

But you know my old Digital Pro orchestra sequencer does not have this problem and work nicely with CC 11.

I consider it's a real issue when you try to put expressions in many close succeeding notes. CC 11 for many musicians is the most important control.

I will report this to Cakewalk.

Hi James,

Midi-ox helped me to have a total control over the CC11 attitude.

In the translation map window a CC7 (Velocity control) output set to 0 is sent for each input NoteOff. For each NoteOff input a CC7 output set to 127 is sent.

Of course this work only for succeeding notes with no chords in the used channel. But it saves from a lot of plumbing !

If you're concerned with those experimentations some Cal files and the Midi-Ox translation map file could be available.

Good idea, I'll try it soon... :) Thanks for the idea :)
