i'm using a laptop with Nuendo and am hooked up with Tascam US 122 MIDI/Audio interface. When i first started several months ago, pan worked fine. now it doesn't work at all. can't live without it. does anyone have suggestions for troubleshooting? What does the mono on/off switch do on the usb box and could that be causing me a problem? Tascam support could not help me at all.

can't see why mono mode would kill your panning, unless you suddenly only had sound on the left or right channel. try it though. it should be easy to hear the difference between a stereo and mono picture.

where is the panning lost though? on your system or in nuendo?

The US122's mono switch makes the output mono, and it will sound like the panning's not working. You should set it to "OFF."

I have tried all combinations i can think of. mono on. mono off. digital piano in stereo or only right line input or only left. It all sounds EXACTLY the same. Pan doesn't work with any of those. Is it true that if I record, say, into left line input with mono off I should only hear sound out of left headphone? or us it supposed to always come out of both sides of headphone? thanks for your help. :)

What diagnostics can i do to tell whether my problem is in the system or in nuendo?

well, playback some stereo music through a non-nuendo program. you're on XP, right? most audio playback software allows you to pan stuff around, and in windows you can do it in the audio properties window (double click the grey speaker on the taskbar). if in those programs (eg winamp) you CAN pan from left to right, then something's up with nuendo.

i'm not familiar with the Tascam hardware, so i can't really say how it should be performing. there's a tascam forum on this BBS, though, maybe check it out.
