Can white noise damage moniters?

I've been having some random bursts of white noise with the recording setup I have and I was wondering if my moniters could get damaged from this?

It sounds horrible. I have no idea what frequency the white noise is at.

I have the M-Audio BX-5a moniters. Self powered/70 watts each.
 
I doubt it, unless it's too loud for your system.

You mention that you don't know what frequency it is at. White now however is linear noise over the full frequency spectrum. The transient when the noise begins might be really loud, but decent speakers should be able to handle it.

Thanks. What do you mean by white noise being "linear noise over the full frequency spectrum?"

It does come in a bit louder than anything else that is "sounding" at any given time.

At times i'll be really focused on a part trying to record a track and it will actually scare me and make me jump up a bit, I hate it!!


I guess the main concern here is that I would really be devestated if it could potentially ruin my moniters.

i think the bigger issue is what the fuck is causing this!! figure it out and remove it!

actually it is an issue for the tweeters even at moderate volumes especially if its a fullrange type set up... but then thats just yet another reason to get rid of it...
 
I'm afraid I can't be help to you, but if you do figure it out please post the problem up - this is exactly the type of random stuff I want to know how to deal with!
 
Unless it's extremely loud it shouldnt be a problem. Sudden pops and feedback will be much more harmfull. Sudden pops are really harmful due to the fact that it is basically inrush current to the speaker coil that is not dampened and can over xtend the cone movement as well as other things.
