I have the option to get some NOS tape, but dont know if its right for my machine.

Its advertised as 478 "mastering tape"

is this much different from the 456 that my machine normally runs on?

Thanks.

Your best bet for new tape is rmg lpr35. It is the closest and best thing around for your machine right now.
You will be better off to get the tape that is designed for you machine.
There is no such thing as a great deal on tape that is not made for your recorder.
Spend the money and get a couple of rolls. You will be glad you did.
If you can find Quantegy 457 that is new then I would go for that also.
Not 456 not 406 get. 457 That is what your machine is setup for and will work the best with. or the lpr35.

Ah...ok.
so the zonal 840 on 7" spool is ok then? I cant seem to find any LPR35.

Also, whats the difference between zonal 675, and 840?

:)

You can get NOS 457 from www.quantegy-online.com ... they keep promising to bring production back online, but it's been about a year now at least....

The R8 is designed for 1 mil tape and is calibrated pretty high (+5) so is perfect for 457 type tape.
