So there's the MSH-1C - cardioid, and the MSH-1A is now called the MSH-1O - O as in omni? Well, the O (letter) is wider than the 0 (number), but that's going to be read generally as MSH-ten.

[thread hijack]Well as I told apl the other day, I didn't want them to have names at all, I wanted them to be named like "Friends" episodes, as in "the one that has higher SPL handling than the other one which had lower output impedance than the original one but doesn't have a tube and isn't cardioid" :D [/thread hijack]

For the OP, I always thought 57s sounded like ass on guitar, but I like my SM63 which I picked up for $35 on eBay  I'd expect the EV 635a to be similar.

I would have to go in the direction of the folks who said it would work pretty well pointed in the neighborhood of the 12th fret, bout six inches away. I knd of like a 57 on accoustic, but then again, thats just me.

if you want to sound like some crappy indie rock band go ahead and don't forget the tube mp and 4-track while your at it, you steve albini wannabe. :D

Ever read his review of the SM57 and the SM58 on Electrical's website?
Funny stuff.

no i have'nt. got a link?

Steve Albini's studio is called Electrical Audio. It's in Chicago. The website is www.electrical.com
If you click on "Equipment" he has pics of everything they have in the studio, with little descriptions of their opinion of the piece of gear. Here is the link to the SM57 (they have 2 of them). It's pretty funny actually, and I say this as a Shure employee, but hey, he's entitled to his opinion.

Also check out his SM58 review, similarly funny.
Albini's also said you can't make a good record on ProTools, but on the other hand, he's one of the giants and it is pretty cool that Electrical is basically all analog.

I completely forgot I started this thread and its funny cus I went ahead and recorded. Now that I recorded I posted another thread asking why the hell this and that...

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=590961
