hey

have posted this before but on totally the wrong thread - so here we are.... just wondering if you can gimme 5 mins to have a listen to this (1st draft) track and give me some feedback...

http://www.myspace.com/greenlasvegaspeak

it's the only track on there, as i'm pretty new to all this, but would love to get some opinions. good(?) bad, or downright ugly..

recorded through pro tools with some basic mixing..

thanks people

There is 16 seconds of dead air before the song starts. The micing is horrible. The song repeats it's self over and over. The different tracks are stepping all over themselves harmonicly. (eq that stuff). Lot's of dead center panning on every track (as far as I can tell on my laptop). Vox effects are really bad. If the vox was nailed perfect a lot of those other mistakes could be written off as being rustic.

Sorry, you asked for opinions, not trying to be rude in any way.

Hello, bakkerberg.

Mixing: You need to adjust the levels, the vox is too buried, the guitar pan is too centered, to open the sound you have to record 2 times guitars and pan them left right like 90R/90L or even 100R/100L, but they must be equals, even the drums are too centered, put a crash at the right, the kick is also buried, i can't hear it at all. I think this is only the mix (no mastering) cause the overall sound is too low. Adjust those 16 seconds of air... it doesn't add anything good to the song.

The song: is not really my style, i think this is like folk/ambient style right? anyway, to me, this song is too similar during the 5 minutes. Put it this way, i heard it twice to try to help and i can't remember a thing, is there a chorus? there's no intention, i could get a cup of coffee, return and i wouldn't miss a thing. Anyway, this is a starting point, take it like that and start to improve with this song...

Don't get this comments in the wrong way please, we all started like you and, most of us, are still learning and improving, so Keep Rocking!

hey guys thanks for responding

yeh the recording process was pretty basic; just used an sm57 and 58 on all instruments individually. for the guitar tracks one up close, one a few metres back, and the drums just had one on the kick and one as an overhead..
the panning i think we took each track and took it about 70L 30C (or vice versa) or somethin... guess i gotta send it out more..

and the vocals: we're still lookin for a singer so it was kind of intentional to bury the vocals and smother them with effects (ran it through a few pedals haha)

tainted db: 'The different tracks are stepping all over themselves harmonicly. (eq that stuff).' do you know any good reading on how to EQ? like i said i'm pretty new to this stuff so didnt really eq it at all...

anyways cheers for listening!

you shouldn't use the myspace player, it degrades the quality.
