hey
do you guys know if i can do this for recording?

bass guitar - amp - line out amp to guitar stompbox (overdrive) - soundcard

??

i was thinking... since i dont have a mixer/preamp/DI box... i could use my guitar pedal, a visualsound jekyyl&hyde, as my preamp. will this work?

i'm having problem with my bass clarity and tone. and i just wanna try new things.

im just worried that i might blow something up. i wont be distorting my signal witht the pedal... just using it to pass by,, or at most, i'll activate the hyde side, turn overdrive all the way down, and use the the EQ, tone and volume nob.

what do you think? will i die?

Well, you won't die, but that stompbox won't like you feeding it a line level signal. The line out of the amp is already a preamped signal; you don't need to boost it, anyway.

If you want to get any of the benefit from the stompbox, you'll want to run it upstream of the amp, BUT many FX boxes designed for guitar (especially distortion units) have a high pass filter in them which will cut the guts (low end) out of your bass sound. That is to say, some guitar FX really suck for bass.

hum
so it really wont do anything right.
damn.

do you think i'll damage my pedal?

Probably not. It will likely hard clip the signal pretty badly, though, which will give you a lot of distortion, and not the good kind.

What is it you are trying to do? The line out of the amp should be a plenty hot preamped signal, and the tone controls on the amp can give you at least some EQ control.

i'm just trying to better my signal.
i never like the way the bass sounds... never.
but i guess thats just how a bass is. better in the mix than soloed out.
but i think i got it.

í didnt test my idea, was to afraid to screw with my pedal haha.

so i just went bass - pedal (drive to 0, tone all the way up to smooth out the sound, and EQ 1/4 (whatever that does).

i got a good sound. good enough at least.
