My C1 is messed up and I believe it's from humidity/ moisture from singing too close to the capsule. When I try to use it, its output jumps between normal and super loud/distorted.

I stuck it in a box with a bunch of silica gel packets.

Any hope of resurrecting it?

No send it to me for $50 :p

Try putting it under a bulb to dry out - not too close mind you - also works great for curing epoxy btw- theres a surfboard in my livingroom under a bulb right now :)

Are you sure it's jumping between normal and super loud? Perhaps its jumping
between quiet and normal and you have the gain lashed up all the way.

:) Heh the boards not mine, I'm solely a warm water swimmer. Board was delivered with a crack in the nose, easier to fix it than send it back. Believe it or not its my dads board - he's been sailing, windsurfing, surfing for 25 years all year round - I think hes made of sandpaper :)

Bummer... that seems to happen a lot with the cheap Chinese made Studio Projects/797 Audio budget mics... I suggest you send it back to PMI.

One reason it happens a lot is that there are a lot more of them around being used by a lot of inexperienced people in a lot of less than ideal situations. Many people have no ideal how to take care of a mic and also when something is cheap people tend not to take care of them anyway. I'm sure there are quality issues too but they are not the only issue.

That's one of the reasons why many times I recommend good dynamic mics.

:) I've only just got back into dynamics, bought a load on ebay. Just received a soundstar X1 - waiting for my din connector to arrive to try it out. BTW any suggestions on what to replace the rotten foam on these with?

I just leave it out and use a pop filter when necessary.
