Do you own more than 1 G&L, and if so, what do you use them for?? I'm doing 7 new songs currently and have found that each of my G&Ls fits certain styles of songs very distinctly. My ASAT Deluxe is handling most of the distortion rhythm tracks, the ASAT Z-3 is doing all the clean sounds, and my 1986 ASAT (with the killer pups!!) is doing the lead work. I didn't plan this, but the tones are different enough that it just worked out that way.
As an aside, after buying a G&L, how often do you use your other guitars. I have 2 Fenders that I rarely touch anymore. 1 is a 40th Anniv Amer Standard Strat that I NEVER use anymore, and the other is a MIM '57 Reissue that I still use occasionally. The fact of the matter is that the MIM blows away the Amer. But neither can hold a candle to my G&Ls.

Not surprised to find you like the G&L's better than the Fenders.

I've got a G&L ASAT Bass that is just killer. I like it much more than the P Bass I use to have. But then the ASAT has active electronics so that helps make it quite versatile.

I have a G & L F-100 Series I

If you know your G & L's, this is the very first model G & L put out back in 1980. Solid mahogany body, maple neck, ebony fretboard and hardware and electronics that could withstand a nuclear attack. I bought it new in early '81. But this is the only G & L I've ever owned. I swapped the pickups with the classic JB-model Duncan combo of TB-4 (bridge) and SH-2 (Jazz neck) and it sounds superb. The original pickups sounded great, but they were too microphonic at club-level volumes.

My other electric guitars range from a '71 Aria SG copy, to a Samick Ultramatic, a Yamaha Pacifica, a Godin Acousticaster, and I'm waiting on an Aria TA-50 (ES-335 copy) to be delivered this week. Every one of these guitars have their own unique sound and feel. I've never been one to bow at the alter of "big name guitars" (Fender, Gibson, PRS, etc). I know they're all great in their own right, but I can't justify paying what they want for these American-made icons.... it's rediculous.

I just want the guitar that kid has in your signature! :D

I have a 1984 L-2000 that I will never sell. I use it live for about 5 songs a night. My Tobias 6 string gets most of the work. I use the L-2000 for any slap stuff and for anything calling for a P bass sound. If I solo the neck pickup I can get pretty close to that P bass tone.

G&L, more Fender than Fender.

I've got an ASAT Deluxe that I really need to get refretted. It's the only G&L I have, but when GAS builds up to unspeakable levels I may break down and grab a Commanche that I've had my eye on.

Seeking G&L

If you G&L guys know where I can get my hands on an early 80's G&L strat for a fair/reasonable price, please have them contact me by email...

Thanks :D
