Ok,,,I bought this program because it boasted about how easily you can mix Wav files within its virtual mixing console. I installed it and program runs ok, but it will not allow me to Import any Wav files>?>? Error message keeps poppin up saying "can not import file, does not support this type file" (<-- something close to that) And yes I read the entire manual too, but that didnt help.

All I want to do is import my 16 tracks off my Alesis HD24 (which I already have these tracks seperately downloaded in my computer in Wav formats) and into this software to mixdown later.

Can anyone help me out?? It seems everything is based on Midi files in this program>??

Thanks and peace

HS XL is in essence Sonar 2.2, so it is very capable with digital audio.

Why don't start by telling us what format the WAVs from the Alesis are in? 16/44? 24/96?

Do you have a decent soundcard installed that is capable of 24/96?

new.
i use a competitor program to home studio.
but all recording programs operate the same way.
you go normally to file open and import the wave.
if youve done this - thus the error message.
then what home is telling you is either the file is corrupted or possibly this wave format is unsupported.
a way to nail this problem down is out side of home.
just click on the wave file so it plays in windows media player.
if you get an error from windows media player then the wav could be corrupt
OR you dont have your pc set up properly to deal with the format.
one possibility is that these are 24 bit files for example BUT you dont have a sound card installed that will play 24 bit. in fact many possibles.
which begs the question....
what format are these alesis files ? bit depth ? sampling rate ?
are they plain jane 16 bit 44.1 OR are they something different ?
like 24 bit 88.2 for example ?
need a bit more info on these wave files to advise further .

I have them in 16Bit and 48K sampling. Also I have them in .wav Format. They convert when I download them off the Alesis HD24 into my computer using the Alesis Fireport. The sound card is a Sound Blaster Live. The Waves play fine when I play them outside the program.

The exact error message reads: "Unable to import wave file. The files audio format is incompatible with the current project". I have reopened "new" several times picking other project types, but to no avail>?>? :(

This whole scenerio works fine when I use my Cubase program. I just bought the cakewalk because I thought it would be more user friendly.

i assume that you have set the preferences in the current project
for 16 bit 48K ? and not 16/44.1 ? i would look at the way your home preferences are set up.
otherwise i'm out of ideas.
if the wav files play in normal win media player they should be fine to import.
hope you get it working ok.

Thanks for all the input and advice. I FINALLY got it to work. It was the sample rate which was set at 24Bit. Changed it to 16 and the Wave files imported no problem.

Thanks guys and gals,,,,I'd be way more lost without this site and its members!

Peace
