Winner chicken dinner!
I went to use my c4's today and 1 those tiny plastic things on the shockmount that (barely) hold the elastic strings on broke off and I've only used them 3 times. Not to mention how one of the shockmounts is too loose for my mic so I have to use tape to keep it from falling out. ugh. I actually e-mailed Alan about the loose shockmount right after I got the mic but he never responded. Is it possible to buy a higher quality shockmount for these mics that fits the mic correctly and doesn't break? I saw some on their website that were 49.99 but they looked exactly the same as the ones I have and I'm not paying 50 bucks for some shockmounts that will break after a couple uses.

I'm sure they will replace it no problem, they have replaced many of teh early shockmount before. Bear in mind that alan is probably deluged with mail and spam.

even if they replace the one that that doesn't fit the mic right, I actually broke the other one myself putting the mic in, and I would still be left with a shockmount that isn't very high quality. I'm really more interested in actually paying for a better quality shockmount than having more crappy ones. I thought I remembered Alan saying a while back that they were making better quality ones from metal but the ones on the website look the same as the ones I have. But the ones I have probably cost about a dollar to produce so I don't see how they would cost 50 dollars so I'm wondering if those are better quality or if it's possible to buy better quality ones.

The big problem with the early C-4 shockmounts was the plastic that was used, not the design. Have a little faith- PMI will replace them.. As far as better ones go, MXL makes a shockmount for SD's that would probably work-

Often, if I'm using just one SD, I'll stick it into an AKG H100 shockmount. Those are pretty bulky, making them less than ideal if you're trying to set up an X-Y pair. They are also pricey, but are great shocks. I had similar problems with my original C-4 shocks, and the replacements have given me no trouble. I use them a lot with a pair of Neumann KM184's. I can't even imagine what Neumann would charge me for a pair of shocks.-Richie

Well Alan e-mailed me and he is sending me out some new shockmounts as of yesterday. Pretty awesome of him especially considering i was willing to pay for new ones. Thanks Alan!
