Do it right or dont do it
Okey, here's the deal. I live in Peru, and music gear here is too expensive. A regular person earns about S/.1500 soles. A dollar is equivalent to S/.3.3 soles. So, this regular person earns about $455 dollars in month. A Shure SM-57 is about $100 dollars (S/.333 soles) so.. you see that is a big problem to spend this amount in something that you can eat!!

Because of this currency exchanges, it's almost imposible to get decent gear like tube head amps or quality instruments. The fact s that I found some chinesse sellers on eBay. They have very good prices on microphones, specially in the one I'm looking for, the almighty Shure SM-57. One of this sellers can ship the mic to peru for 50 bucks (evrything included)!!! But... an italian guy pointed that the mic was not original. So I'd like to know if you guys had bought something from a foreign dealer on eBay, especially the sellers from China. I'll appreciate the help. Thanks a lot.

There seem to be a lot of bogus eBayers from that part of the world.

A whole world man! I don't know exactly how PayPayl works (a friend fo mine is gonna do the transaction) but on eof thse guys send me his yahoo email, and told me to Paypal to the address!!! Jezz, these guys can't even speak english correctly and they all want money orders. Maybe I should spend more for a secure transaction.

Keep in mind if you get ripped off on eBay the shipping is not refundable.

Be EXTREMELY cautious sending a money order to any eBay seller, especially someone outside of the country you are in, because they can cash your money order and keep your money. It's VERY difficult to get a refund from eBay, even if it is a case of fraud, as I discovered. It's very easy for a dishonest eBay seller to cheat a customer, then vanish, then resurface with a new name and cheat someone else.

BE CAREFUL!!!

Yeah, the friend that was going to do the transaction told me so. But I thought that PayPal was the securest way to bid.

"Buy cheap, sound cheap" I used to say that... now I have to swallow my own words. Well, at least I have the money with me!

No personal experience, but I've read seller feedback on some of those SM57's going for way too cheap from Chinese sellers that said they're fakes.

...you'd be much better off dealing with this seller on eBay, if you can get him to ship internationally...their SM57 and SM58 clones are great mics for very little money...very highly praised on this website (search GLS SM57)...

Personally, I would never buy "fake" Shure microphones  But... I have never used these, so maybe they are all right! :)

A fake is a fake, I wanna buy a REAL Shure microphone. I'm asumming these mics look alike the real ones but maybe they have noises or hums because of the low quality components.

...wrong...these are not fake anything...they are high quality dynamic mics produced in the same facilities that manufacture the name brand versions (private label manufacturing)...they share a similar design, but are not claiming to be Shure mics...many experienced members on this site use them, and some say they perform as good or better than the current lot of Shure product...

Sorry to hear about your situation in Peru.

I saw some sellers from China offering Gibson LPs and PRS guitars for sale, and neither one of these companies produce guitars in China. This isn't to say that everything is a fake, but buyers should beware.

Have you looked for used SM57s on the internet? Many businesses accept paypal. It sounds like the used market may be the best way for you to pick up stuff, at a better price?

Best of luck.

Check out www.thomann.de They charge 10 euro shipping to scotland from germany for everything you buy. They may ship to peru, and they have an SM57 copy for £24 about $35 with 6m LR cable. I have one and it sounds pretty good. Ain't been able to AB it with a real SM57 yet, but i like the sound. If you can buy from them, buy all your stuff at once to save on shipping. :D

I use them, and love them. These are not "knock-offs" or second rate microphones - they are quality mics backed up by a quality company (Orange County Speaker).

just my .02,
Jay

Amen to that!

I use the GLS, and they are GREAT mics!

They do not claim to be Shure, but are admitted copies that use rare earth magnets (neodymium) that have a but stronger output. They are based on Shure's design, but attention is payed to quality.

The copies being reffered to are knock-offs from China that have shure labels on them, but are NOT shure mics. I have emailed Shure regarding this and am waiting a reply.

So these actually aren't that bad, eh???

Hmm...where can I pick up one of these for cheap? :)
